Feels a bit odd to me. We have Greaves, Burgess, Woolfenden, Edmundson and Tuanzebe at centre back already. Yes, many think Edmundson will be sold but that still leaves 4 (the 2 for each position McKenna keeps mentioning). It's so obvious we need midfielders as a priority and also another striker. Please can we get at least one quality central midfielder through the door before August 17th and then probably another before the window closes. |  |

I wonder given the apparent interest in him in January, that Tuanzebe might leave towards the end of the window if Clarke gets himself back relatively fit.

I totally agree re: freddie, but as many have mentioned strikers in our system aren't relied on to score goals. Granted Freddie doesn't offer much else in terms of running off the ball.
But, if you solidify the defence, it gives you a platform to build on. Greeves and O Shea would be solid. Wolf and Burgess good back ups. |  | | |

While I agree. One of the weakest areas of our game is the defence. So could be why they are bulking it out significantly. And tbh it doesn't mean we don't have something in the pipeline for other areas |  | | |

I don't get this negative act mate. It's odd.
I predict we won't see Ladapo in the squad for Liverpool even if we do not sign anyone. Really can't see us risking him being able to move on if he got injured and not playing him keeps our options open if there is no season long loan or permanent deal for him. In fact, it wouldn't surprise me if he's released a couple of days before the window closes with a settled contract that allows him to sign elsewhere for less money. |  |

I think your second paragraph nails it. Seem to remember ashton or mckenna or someone saying as much a while back - if a good player is available they'll go for it. Replacing harness after half a season when broadhead became available, for example. | |

Freddie may be our only other fit striker behind Delap next Friday so I think he will be on the bench. Unless we plan on parking the bus, which is very un-McKenna-like. |  |

No he hasn't FFS! It seems his preference is Sporting (which is completely reasonable and logical) but in no way does that mean he has no interest in coming to us.
He is in demand. There are probably 20 clubs that would take him if they can. Let's say we were 2nd/3rd pick/option for him. Sporting don't offer enough. He comes to us fully motivated still. | |

Because we will struggle to get anywhere near the number of goals we got last season and looking at our goals against which was well up there the defence needs to be as solid as possible. In the past we have had the likes of Beattie and Hunter, Osman and Butcher. Can't see Burgess and Woolfenden anywhere near the class of those two pairings. Yes I agree we definitely need another high class midfielder and forward and would assume on the basis of what has come out of PR these positions are being worked upon. The problem is that when we did the first deals we were probably well on the way with them before the likes of Southampton. Now they are, along with teams already in the Premier League fighting us for these signings. | | | |

Obviously means KM is going to follow Pep's model, of moving a CH into midfield. John Stones did OK in midfield for a couple if games as a deep playing CH, clearly KM is going to move Wolf into midfield as we're struggling to get midfielders in.

I think that Kieran knew all along that our defence (much as we love them as individuals) were our weak point last year. We’re simply not going to out score the opposition this year so it is imperative that regardless of what forwards we get or don’t get in that we significantly improve our defensive play.
I’ve no doubt personally that we’ll get at least one more forward in before the window shuts, and homely a couple of decent midfielders. |  |
