Ashley Young set to sign... on 12:08 - Jul 21 by Westcountryblue
As experienced cover, fine.
But i think it would be a real back step to let Johnson go. He has the engine and pace to be a really effective RB/RWB at this level and can get up and down the line.
Harry Clarke i'd assume/hope would be the one to make way.
A bit of strange signing to be honest. Jury is out on this one, as it is with a few decisions the club has made this summer. Not entirely convinced.
Johnson has the engine/pace?
That's not what his Austria bleep test suggested...

In the spirit of reconciliation and happiness at the end of the Banter Era (RIP) and as a result of promotion I have cleared out my ignore list. Look forwards to reading your posts!

Only 7 of our players played more PL minutes than him last season and that includes Delap, Morsy, Hutchinson and Cajuste so potentially only 3 of the remaining squad
Would make sense if Clarke was going to be offered up for sale in the last year of his contract.
I'd be disappointed if we swapped out Ben Johnson for Ashley Young though - would leave RB options a 40 year old and someone we don't think will be good enough and have tried to upgrade.

Don't mind as a coach, but not as a player unless in emergency - he's 40 and he's not Cristiano Ronaldo! Can't believe people want to move Johnson or Clarke on to accommodate him.

Strange - really?
After CM/ST, that RB position is our third most important area to upgrade in. Young played most of Everton's games last season in the PL in that position. He's a solid, experienced player that is never going to let us down. We don't play with a marauding full back down that side, we need someone that is positionally aware and first and foremost can defend 1v1.

A shame for Clarke as I love his enthusiasm. Sadly his ability in that position leave a lot to be desired. If Young is 50% as good as he was he's still pretty useful. Maybe I am a tad surprised as we have now signed a veteran keeper and possibly a fullback. Experience maybe. A little odd maybe. We still need possibly two midfielders and a forward.
