Should make people stop saying that this was the lazy, or easy option.

Have they mentioned salary? Hopefully it’s a reduction on Kieran’s - that was £3M / year wasn’t it?

He was on much more than that.

In the spirit of reconciliation and happiness at the end of the Banter Era (RIP) and as a result of promotion I have cleared out my ignore list. Look forwards to reading your posts!

Isn’t it just. I hope MA ends up very smug when this works out, but on paper it seems a ridiculous ‘deal’. Right up there with spending >£10M in the Championship for players who had quite little impact.

If anywhere near true I would imagine it’ll be hugely performance related! If GON keeps us up he’ll deserve it!

It's compensation to Strasbourg for the loss of a manager so I doubt it is anything other than a one off payment regardless of how he fares at Town. In accounting terms it is a sunk cost and hits the profit and loss account as soon as it is committed to, no depreciation or amortisation is applicable.

Poll: To make him more acceptable what should Gary O'Neill change his middle name to ?

I can’t find a definitive list but that must put him top 10 or so in terms of most expensive premier league manager hires ever (on a purely compensation only perspective)?

If it is €5m and he is on a three-year contract, then we will amortise @ €1.67m (£1.5m, roughly) a year.

You can’t amortise compensation payments. It all appears in the accounts for the year it was payed.

If, as seems likely, McKenna takes a job at some stage, the suggestion is that we will get £8 million, so we will make a profit on the deal.

My understanding is that it depreciates per month by 650k thus in Winter the amount would be approx 4m and in June 27 would be nil.

I’ll first caveat this with ‘nobody knows for sure’, but McKenna’s salary, after relegation clauses kicked in, was reported in the only article on Championship managers base remuneration as ~£1M for 25/26.

Rumours higher than this are normally pushed by some that have an agenda, and based on what was rumoured for 24/25 in the PL.

Presumably it would have increased again with promotion, if he’d hung around, but is looks likely that it was much less than some would like to claim it’s been for the past 12 months.

I suspect O’Neil will have a base that is a very small number of millions plus significant performance bonuses.

I found a list for 24/25 which put him at about 12th out of 15 for the season in the PL. The other 5 were listed an unknown. It would have also reduced significantly for 25/26 (base).

I don’t think it’s the lazy option, I think it’s lazy to say it’s the lazy option actually, because when you look into GON, and do a bit of a check on him, you can see there are clear pointers as to why he would be an attractive option.

It should be very much a blank slate for him, he’s had successes and failures as most have, looking forward to seeing what he does and can bring to the club, should have the absolute backing of all, and I’m sure he will.

The fee is what the fee is, £4.3m will prove to be a masterstroke or disasterstroke, but that is what Ashton is paid the big bucks for, to make them decisions.

I thought that was only binding for the 12 months following his resignation, so would expect he’d sit it out to be a free agent?

I must admit I hadn't picked up on the 12 month time limit.

That's if we get £8m, the closer it gets to time running down we may take less. May depend on how O'Neil does at Celtic or West Ham if they are adrift of promotion.

Five million?

difficult to pay anyone too much less without insulting them / de-motivating them fro the off. Especially after McKenna's contract value was widely known.

do you mean the compensation to Strasbourg, as I suspect, or the contract he is on ? as people do seem to be confusing the two.

4.3million GBP, its like only a few weeks back people were saying 8million wasnt a deal breaker or something like that ;)

A very big investment. The same as a 25m signing on a 5-year deal in the accounts?

Worse in our accounts as GON has no sell on value. It’s a huge investment and show of intent to gwt our man

We did it guys. We stole march on absolutely no-one, beat off zero competition and finally nailed our guy. A guy who joined his previous club 6 months ago on a free, made almost no impression whatsoever and who no-one was remotely bothered to lose.

That man is GON. Now the 10th most expensive manager in UK football history.

That's now £13.5 million pounds on Akpom, Kipre and O'neill.

Mark Ashton is an idiot prince and he will destroy us all.

There will presumably be costs to pay off McKenna's coaching staff too, whereas if he went to Fulham we would have received compensation.

It’s no longer PSR, but yes it’s a cost towards SCR.

Edit: but will have insignificant impact for us given our currently extremely low wage bill in PL terms.

When you say 'doesn't exactly scream success', what does that mean? Success in the forthcoming season will be avoiding relegation. O'Neil has done that twice with teams either newly promoted (like us) or struggling.

I assume Kesgrave means that O'Neil hasn't won anything major, or is not a much wanted manager by more established Premier League sides. Something like that.

You know, exactly the sort of manager a side with one Premier league season in twenty five years should be able to attract.

No it shows that was a f***ing stupid option. €5m is a ridiculous amount for a manager with a CV.that doesn't exactly scream success.

You have to give him a chance now though at least until Christmas.

If we are bottom at the end of the year we can all pile on accordingly, but, until then it is not allowed I am afraid.
