It will be interesting to see where we are shopping.
We are in a strange situation in all honesty when it comes to buying players.
- Top players from lower League One and downwards won't be any better than what we have.
- Players from top League One clubs won't be available to move to a promotion rival in all likeliness, unless we pay silly money which we can't and these sorts of players will have options in the Championship.
- Players at lower end Championship clubs may still be on more than what we can now offer, with the relegation reductions, so would potentially be unwilling to join us for a wage drop if contracted somewhere else. They are presumably more likely to favour a loan until their contract expires.
How many players are there really that would a) come to us, b) fit into our wage structure, c) improve us and d) not cost more than £500,000, which is the most I can imagine us paying.
We are probably more likely to be looking at free agents and if this is the case, would anyone put it past Evans to play chicken and hope that, if they get no other offers in the next couple of weeks, they are more likely to accept reduced terms to save a little bit more against what he has to find from his own pocket? |  |

He's quite close to my "David McGoldrick tribute act" that I was thinking about - especially if Judge leaves and we need a player who can help link the midfield and the attack. I always thought we looked better at that last season with Keane on the pitch.
Wages must be an issue though, surely? Although I suppose it depends if Keane himself feels he needs guaranteed game time more to really boost his career and his future earnings. |  |
