Assuming Plymouth goes ahead.

What would we accept from Sheff W A, Plymouth A and Portsmouth H?

Would personally take five points, anything more would be a statement and 3 or less would be a concern.

Five points would give us 25 from 11, which leave us three points ahead of the 2 points a game we believe we need for top 2.

We only took 9 points against the teams that finished top 6 last season and we have four from 2 games so far (MKD 3v0 and Barnsley 1v(Sundeland)1).Five more would match last season top six total, with seven more games to go).

5 would be a solid return and we could then go on. 6 would be good. 7 fantastic. 9 and there will be no stopping the hype train.

Truly impaired.

3 points wouldn't be disastrous, the pressure has been taken off them by us taking the points we should have off the 'lesser' teams. Obviously, more would great, 9 would be brilliant!

6 would mean us losing one. Boo.

Think a draw on sat will be OK.

But we have to beat pompy to take them down a peg and to stop that annoying fker coming on here afterwards.

Plymouth... I think will end up being postponed.

I’d love to see us beat our promotion rivals more consistently, we’ve just not been able to do that over the last 3 seasons. A couple of wins would do very nicely.

Without wanting to sound too much like Mick McCarthy, I'd be happy with draws in the 2 away games before regaining momentum with a win against Pompey.

Anything above 5 points would be a good return.

If I had to predict, I reckon we'll get 4. I can see us beating Wednesday, losing at Argyle because I'm going and I'm a curse, and then a drab 0-0 park the bus draw with Portsmouth.

I'd like to see us beat Sheff Wed and Plymouth (tho on form, that latter one will be a 0 - 0 draw, they don't concede at home, neither do we on the road). Portsmouth will be tougher, but it is the home fixture. Not losing to them would be good, winning a significant bonus.

I may have missed something here, but why might the Plymouth game be postponed?

Are they likely to have players missing for the internationals?

It would depend on how those three points were achieved.

One win and two draws wouldn’t be great. But three points from three draws would mean that our rivals wouldn’t gain any ground on us or pull ahead of us.

Jumping the gun on Nthsuffolkblue's excellent thread here...

Statistical comparison with last season by Nthsuffolkblue 6 Aug 2022 15:08
If we take each match as a comparison replacing the promoted and relegated teams with those directly replacing them ...

After 1 match we are +1 point, +3 GD and -1 GF.

Today's match Forest Green replace Gillingham who we beat 0-4 away so we that is our "par" score.

Of course, we won't improve/match every result all season but overall we need to be up something like 20 points by the end of the season.

I will try to keep tabs on this after each match.

We're currently (after 8 matches)...

+13 pts, GD +13, GF +2.

...when you compare our results from last season to our results this season against the teams we've played.

Results last season for these 3 fixtures were:

Sheff Wed (a) 1-0
Plymouth (a) 2-1
Portsmouth (h) 0-0

Based on that, anything more than a single point is an improvement on last season! To be honest, I'd be satisfied with 3 draws (keep the unbeaten run going, deny our rivals 3 points to catch us up) rather than winning and losing a game in that run, so I'd be in agreement with quite a few posters on this thread and very happy with 5 points from these games.

I expect 3 wins. Can't see us losing. We are better than Weds, Plymouth and Pompey. Let them worry about us. Infact, they should be very worried. Beat these three I can see us being unbeaten all season. Ipswich Invincibles. Champions elect.

9pts would not be unreasonable..

We have a long way to go to match Man City’s 12 consecutive away league wins.

Three points would be fine if all were draws — as long as we're ticking off most of the other assignments, simply not losing to our closest rivals is absolutely fine.

I expect four point, which is decent, and anything more would be very encouraging indeed.

I think 4 would be par to stay in the top 2 and take points/share points with rivals.

We’d like more and could absolutely win all 3 of course. But hard to see, given any of these three matches in isolation would be our toughest test so far. Of course, we’ll also be the opposition’s toughest test in each of these games too. And if we put in a winning performance on Saturday then I’d really fancy us to get more than a point out of the next two.

In general, we have every reason for solid optimism rather than wishful hope. All feels very strange ... 🙂

By any metric we should be the favourite for each game, therefore I think 7-9 points is most likely.

I reckon we're looking at this completely wrong - as we all know the next 3 games are against the remainder of the top 4.

So instead of a win being your usual 3 points, it's actually worth 6 points, because of the impact on the top of the table. If that's the case a draw is worth 0 points, and a loss is worth -3 points. This being the case, i'll be happy with 12 points.

Promotion form demands a minimum of five points.
To show our credentials I would say we need seven.

9 is always the target. but for me 5 would be a good return. It would mean we hadn't lost to our immediate rivals. Anything more than that would be great. 9 would be stonkingly good and justify every bit of hype that would follow.

I'd settle for three draws, rather than a win, a draw and a loss.

Aim for 9 points. Why not? It is achievable. Each of our opponents will be confident and are doing well, but so are we. So to the clichés:

One game at a time
It’s 11 v 11
Game of two halves
You can only beat what’s in front of you
Every point is a prisoner (so nine is a cell full)
