US election megathread 03:24 - Sep 23 with 163075 viewsSpruceMoose

Seeing as we are approaching the presidential debates, and with the actual election being only 42 days away, maybe we could keep this as a US election megathread for those on here who are interested? One location for all the discussion would prevent multiple threads clogging up the board for those who don't care to get involved?

Personally, the reality of having to experience this election in the near future is stressful AF so if anyone else wants to get stressed together... Jump on board.

Now, insert all the usual caveats about polling here but...it's looking positive that we will be rid of Trump come 2021, much to the disappointment of a couple of posters on here. 538 are well respected in the field of poll analysis so what they announce should be taken seriously.

Of course their analysis doesn't take account of any election fraud, Russian interference, voter suppression etc. But it's positive news none the less. Once Trump is gone, we can work on Johnson. Decent people of the world... Unite!

Is Florida really a safe state? It's been a Republican state in 2016 but prior to that Obama won it in both 2008 and 2012.

yes, safe is probably not the correct word

Florida is one of the states that Trump has to hold to have a chance of winning

the point being, if Trump cannot hold Florida then he is finished

Few hours ago Biden was 8/15 & Trump was 2/1

Now its literally turned on its head.

Still a long way to go though.

I saw that too. Betfair odds have swung massively towards Trump?! Hoping its just an over-reaction towards Florida, but its pretty concerning!

Sadly I don’t think it is - Trump is 1/4 now and looks like he is going to win pretty much exactly the same states he won last time - it doesn’t even look like the Dems are going to win the Senate (could keep Mike Pence busy if it goes 50/50)

These are sad times indeed - I honestly thought the higher voting numbers would favor Biden but it seems like it just drove everyone out to vote

Living here in the US as a minority is going to be horrific for the next 4 years - there are no adults left in the White House and now Trump doesn’t even have to worry about re election then he is going to go all out tyrant

I posted in the chat room a little while ago about some of the types being shown who are being interviewed on TV.

Some couple there with Trump hats on admitting they nothing about the politics they've voted for but have enjoyed all the flag waving and sounding the horn in their truck when they see other Trump flags.

I despair.

I had soccer training tonight and a few of the parents wanted me to finish early so they could go off to their election party - came down with all their kids wearing Trump shirts and big old flags in the back of their pick up. What gets me is the most rabid Trump supporters are also some of my nicest parents and their kids are a pleasure to train - but they’ll all be out there now celebrating a man that doesn’t give two sh it’s about them

Do they even know why they want him for pity's sake?

Someone else was complaining about Socialism creeping in and, as J2 pointed out, if you asked them what that even means they really didn't seem the type to be able to answer that.

Buzzwords work on the dumb though.

Yep socialism (that’s what my neighbour posted on her FB page) Marxism, Communism - all that garbage - Harris is the most Liberal candidate they have ever had and the Dems are going to take their guns and kill babies

Another one right now.

Trump voter: "Biden has spoken a lot of pro-communist views".

Interviewer: "What in particular has Biden said that concerns you?"

Trump voter: "Well, nothing in particular but it's just the way he speaks and represents Socialist ideals".

The interviewer keeps pushing the point but the guy just doesn't know.

Trump is doing as we expected Trump to do.

In a now deleted tweet he has said Dems are trying to steal the election

I saw that on BBC.

That was immediately after Biden had given a brief but eloquent speech.

Then Trump speaks like a small child.

Biden is up 80/20 in early voting in Pennsylvania.

That’s why Trump is freaking out

If Trump wins this then the democrats need to take a long hard look at themselves.

They had four years to find the right candidate yet the final three in the race were all men over the age of 70.

Where is the next Kennedy/ Clinton/ Obama?

The 2nd District of NB is reporting as Blue, this could be massive and potentially PA wont need to worry about reporting late.

Trump will win Pensylvania ... I guess we are starting to see and understand the process by which the likes of Hitler got in to power during hard economic times. I was always concerned that the high turnout just meant more cockroaches were coming out.

I will bet you my last Rolo that PA is going blue. Only 50% of ballots counted in Allegheny Co (Pittsburgh), and Philadelphia Co (Philadelphia) - And those are huge leans to Biden in person, and will be extremely bolstered by mail ins. (0.9% Swing to Biden in the counted votes so far. 1% in Michigan and 1.1% in Wisconsen.)

Now Georgia is getting spicy, as Arnold rightfully has mentioned.

Currently 2.2 million uncounted mail in votes, of which they believe 80% are Democrat.

It will be close, but all depends on how much Trumps lawyers het close to it

BBC News live were hearing from an american professor and he was quite interesting in what he had to say.
"Gotta interupt you right there - going to the White House to hear from Trump".
5 minutes of looking at an empty stage.
The media fall for it every time.
Trump wanted the attention so gets everyone to focus on him.

That people of Hispanic origin in Florida are voting for Trump when he has accused them of being criminals and rapists and has gleefully broken up thousands of families in similar circumstances to their own is massively depressing. I guess if you call centre right liberals 'socialists' often enough some of that sh!t starts to stick. I'm a bit worried about how close it is looking.
