Thanks to all of you that have been kind, fun and engaging. I really do wish you all the very best for you and your families and those close to you in these uncertain times.

Saying over and over my argument has changed doesn’t make it true. I still stand by the same points, the difference is the threads no longer descend into the ignorant and ill informed madness that polarised them to the more extreme side of making my point clear.

I’m not saying your argument has changed. At all.

I’m saying your way of getting the argument across is much better. For everyone’s sake. Including your own.

I said at the time I wasn’t going to watch a cow being slaughtered. Why would I wish to. I haven’t watched it since and nor would I in future.

What am I projecting exactly?

I watched a few of them videos as my sister in law banged on about them so much, and shes a proper vegan, has the word tattooed behind her ear - but that's a whole other issue....

its not particularly fun viewing, but it doesn't stop me eating meat, but then at the same time an asda spicy bean burger is on my weekly shopping list, AND (probably because shes unable to work at present so a bit bored) shes cooking sweet potato enchiladas next week.

maybe i'll get that tattoo to :)

What do you mean ‘take responsibility for their opinions’.

Most people at the time said they ate meat. Most of the exact same people now.. would still eat meat. The change in various is Callis’ tactics to spread his veganism message.

Edit - Ultimately.. it doesn’t bother me either way. Over the years I’ve got much better at ignoring threads so if it went back to how it used to be on those threads, I’d just ignore it. Was just AJ observation that they’re much more civilised which is clearly a good thing. I’m not the only one who’s said the same in the last few days about the vegan threads. Me, Ryorry, J2, Bloots and one of Swansea or Ulla (I get the pictures confused so forget who it was) have all said on this thread or the vegan thread that the threads themselves are much better these days - with far less arguments.

I mean exactly that. Take responsibility for your own opinions.

Too many people don’t because they love having opinions but they don’t like backing them up or even thinking about them much in the first place.

These are the people that defend their right to have an opinion rather than defending the opinion itself. And are shallow enough to go in with both feet when threatened.

Blaming someone else’s tone for why your opinion doesn’t change is a cop out. Callis wasn’t the sole source of information - he was an available target who could be attacked.

You said you’d seen the videos of what happens in slaughterhouses, claimed to be unmoved and unbothered, then got massively offended for sharing such a video as you didn’t want to see it.

You are projecting the idea that it’s me who has changed, when it isn’t.

How am I doing other than taking responsibility for my opinion? I openly say I eat meat. I don’t care what you, Callis or anyone thinks of me because I eat meat. I literally do not care one bit.

I enjoy eating meat. I’m happy eating meat. I’ll continue to eat meat.

Re: your edit. Have a word.

It doesn’t bother you but at the same time you’re always front and centre in the blame and tone policing.

And this is your opinion as you wrote a day or two ago:

“Yes it’s harmful to the environment etc, but I’ve come to the conclusion in my mind that I’m ok with that. Yes it means animals have to die, but I’ve come to the conclusion in my mind that I’m ok with that. It’s a personal choice. As you rightly say, it’s not illegal.”

It’s an unbelievably crap opinion as far as I’m concerned. But you own it, you defend it. And don’t blame anyone else but yourself for not letting you reach a different one.

So now you’re saying I own it? But 5 minutes ago I wasn’t taking responsibility for the opinion?

You can’t have it both ways DK. Pick which one you’re accusing me of otherwise it just looks as though you’re being argumentative for the sake of it.

I don’t care that I eat meat. Doesn’t mean I don’t care about the interesting discussions that TWTD has to offer. I’m sure you talk about things you don’t partake in, but it doesn’t mean you don’t enjoy the conversation. There’s no difference here.

All you’ve done tonight is look for an argument to prove a point and got yourself in a muddle. You don’t know whether you’re trying to argue that I’m not taking responsibility for my opinion that I eat meat (not really an opinion anyway.. that’s a fact) or whether I’m in fact owning that opinion but it’s a sh*t one. I’m entitled to an opinion just as much as you are DK... don’t go forgetting it.

The NFL is on now so I’m out til the morning. I look forward to seeing more backtracking on your behalf.

You aren’t taking responsibility of the reality that much of the stuff posted my way 3-4 years back wouldn’t fly now as it is pure ignorance and more people are widely informed on the facts around plant diets. You’d be laughed off the thread now and my posts on veganism attract the opposite of multiple down arrows, but back then outright ridicule of vegans and/or vegan activists (like ones blocking the meat aisle in a shop for example, first world problems!) would get lots of support whilst small voices like mine had to scream to be heard among lots of nonsense and abuse.

That’s not my argument changing, that’s progression of understanding among wider society. We don’t have to have stupid debates around BUT MEAT BECAUSE HUMAN EVOLUTION/TASTY/VEGANS ANNOY ME/LIVE AND LET LIVE/ANIMALS AREN’T HUMANS/F*CK OFF CALLIS as it’s widely accepted as a poorly formed opinion. Therefore we don’t get to 18 pages where I literally have to share videos of what happens in slaughterhouses to people lying to themselves about what goes on in them. I don’t have to compare pets to cattle as animal sentience is widely accepted as fact (and let’s be honest, that always has been despite denial to avoid facing our own moral flaws).

Spruce gave me no end of sh1t and we get along quite well now, he admits he called it wrong and may have got a bit wrapped up in the mob (although he didn’t let me off the hook fully, although I hope he sees the holes I dig myself as passion at least!).

It’s called “owning your sh1t”. I’ve done it at multiple points in my life, I can’t see how it’s that hard.

I think there is an issue there though Phil. Many will wade in on threads where their past posts that totally contradict their input have not been owned, addressed or apologised for.

TWTD has a bit of a habit of progressing over time with societal norms/views yet when the chickens come home to roost the history of those posts is distorted to hide past flaws. A good example I raised this week was TWTD and veganism. My views and posts on the subject remain the same, yet I’m continually told I’ve “chilled out” or the way I made my points back then were unfair.

It’s pure projection to make people feel better and not own it. I don’t take myself that seriously but I do find it insulting. And it’s far from exclusive to me alone and veganism as a topic, before someone says LOOK AT ME.

No one who says/does things they later change their stance on looks back at their old views as enlightened, so call it what it is.

But that, to me, is why old scores always come back - they need to be settled or they never die off.
[Post edited 19 Nov 2020 23:14]

No, the way you make your point is aggressive. You post with an enlightened arrogance that puts people off your points.

For veganism I would rather talk with Herbivore, Eireblue, or Swailesy.

Your political points, you do have a point with some of them.

The whole “holding mirrors up” thing is ridiculous.

“Being on the right side of history”, yes mate. Those that are don’t need to shout about it.

That’s what pisses people off.

I genuinely think you’re probably a decent guy, I reckon you’d be a laugh to cook food and play goldeneye with. But I don’t think your posts come across well on here. Which is a real shame. I’ve watched a few documentaries like What the health, Game Changers, Cowspiracy, I reckon you would have some interesting opinions on them. But I can’t be sure that what I will get is a proper chat about them.

During the first lockdown you talked about the possibility of having a mental breakdown. A few of us were quite concerned about you. I certainly didn’t want to see that. It was interesting to hear about the your exercise journey. How’s that going by the way?

.....over recent months it's turned into a very different place, not a particularly nice place sometimes.

There's always been "ribbing" of people on here, it's part of the charm, but only rarely did it ever get too personally offensive.

Lately it's turning into a platform for personal crusades and the constant aggressive dismissal of anyone with a different view.

Nobody should feel that they can't post on here through fear of getting abused, whether you are black, white, green, a meat eater, a veggie, a hipster, gay, straight, Jewish, Muslim, martian, Lambert inner or of any other persuasion.

Take some time out, but come back.

This is a good post Bloots, and I'll be giving it an up arrow. Can I ask, though, that you take your own advice. You've been following me around for months attacking pretty much everything I post and downarrowing even the most innocuous.

Feel free to disagree with stuff and we can discuss it. But in recent times it's seemed personal.

Not sure what Alternative account you think I am?

I've openly admitted I support Colchester and joined this site way back after reading for a while when I was moved by a thread raising money for a poorly child (my memory is shocking and I feel guilty for forgetting the details) which I contributed to after joining

Since then I primarily posted about the nasty vindictive man you currently call your manager following some experiences I witnessed and/or heard about when he was at Colchester.

If you think I've previously posted under a different name you are entirely wrong and I'd happily accept any wager or terms you want if you feel you can prove or evidence it any way (you can't)

Just a final point - to the very best of my knowledge I neither know or have met any poster on her so have no "allegiance" to anyone but just seems you have some really questionable posters on here (with "Benters" style views which I deplore) or argumentative idiots (to be honest this thread is pretty much the Hall of fame for that)

Still - you crack and enjoy yourself - personally this thread encapsulates quite brilliantly all that is wrong with TWTD
