It is with great sadness to have to inform you that Robin Sword passed away on May 1st.
Jeera enquired about Robin earlier today and I remember Footers messaged me about him recently as well. I hadn't heard from Robin since late March and he wasn't feeling so good so after Jeera posted earlier I emailed Robin and didn't get a reply. Fearing the worst I then emailed his wife Gillian and she just contacted me to tell me of the bad news.
Robin has had Leukaemia since I have known him which is only a few years but he seemed to be stable. I don't know much about Leukaemia and we never spoke about it too much so I didn't know the full prognosis.
Gillian informs me that the first chemo went well but then the cancer came back and there was nothing they could do.
I can't say I knew Robins whole life story as we only knew each other for a relatively short time and he used to pop and see me while I was at work in Norwich, usually sporting some snazzy headwear and often driving his BMW 3 wheel motorbike.
Robin would either talk about Ipswich Town, Socialism or oil or gas pipelines. Most times we met up the conversation would steer on to some or other pipeline he was tasked to organise, usually under a mile of snow or having to deal with corrupt or useless officials.
Anyway Robin, it was a pleasure to have known you and thoughts go out to Gillian and the family.
The funeral is tomorrow at Waveney Cremation 11.00.
It won't be a religious service and it will feature some Deep Purple and Pink Floyd.
Gillian has requested that I let her know what his TWTD friends say but I shall send her a link of course.
“Hello, I'm your MP. Actually I'm not. I'm your candidate. Gosh.”
Boris Johnson canvassing in Henley, 2005.
Sorry to hear this. Thoughts with friends and family.
I definitely remember Fred.
Just checked my PM's and found a discussion with No.9. Perhaps unsurprisingly it was about politics. We were on different sides, but he was well informed and cordial in his approach which is refreshing!
R.I.P. Robin, from another Robin - we’re a rare breed. Thanks for posting Lucan, I didn’t know him but as has been said a knowledgable poster. Credit to Phil the forum for the relationships he formed on here and also huge respect to him, he clearly reached out to many other posters, you can tell he was a special person.
RIP Fred, we shared many a PM over the years and he always had interesting things to say and was very supportive and genuinely interested in what came back.
That's such a shame. When someone's not on here for a while you think they're just having little break. Even when people mentioned earlier this week that they hadn't seen him around, I didn't think for a minute that there was anything behind the absence. As people have said, I don't recall him ever mentioning that he had leukaemia.
RIP Fred/No 9/Robin. You'll be very much missed as you've been part of the furniture around here for as many years as I can remember.
I didn’t know him, while he was passionate about his opinions he was always respectful which is sadly missing in so many these days, he will be a missed contributor.
Condolences to his family and friends. RIP

Never met or knew Robin, other than through postings on here. Yet he went to the trouble to contact me and offer his thoughts on police corruption in the Met from the 70s, something he was clear had been a major issue.
On recently watching the BBC doc on the same subject I remembered his words and felt bad for not taking it all that seriously at the time. He was spot on over that, as he was on many things.
One of the people who was consistently on the right side of the debate imho.
Very sorry to hear that. As others have said, Robin always had interesting and different points of view and even when we disagreed he was unfailingly polite.
Best wishes to his wife and family.
