Most disappointing ITFC signings? 20:05 - Aug 24 with 8774 viewsBlueandTruesince82

It has been suggested to me that judging Harper as once such example is heavy but I maintain what we got vs what we thought we were getting makes it an entirely justified statement

I would include on my list

Lee Martin
Paul Taylor
Nigel Reo Coker
Sam Parkin
Adrian Paz

Any other contenders for Towns most disappointing (not worst) signing?

Tommy Oar - had the pedigree and the opportunity and just didn't take it.

Andy Marshall - you should never cross the divide but he cost us massively whether it was his fault or the fans who barracked him into a vicious cycle, it was a pivotal moment in our demise.

Malarczyk - thought we'd signed some Eastern European Rolls Royce hard bastard but we got a gutless Lada.

Mick played Malarcyzk against Man United lol. A cheap punt, but was nowhere near the required standard.

Ívar Ingimarsson - supposed to be the mature head who would stabilise things at the back. Someone forgot to check if his legs still worked.

Bullard and Parkin, as others have said.

Pretty much every desperate short-term signing Jewell made. I can’t remember us ever having to settle as many contracts.

He wasn't partiicularly disappointing, just cr@p.

And for 60k hard to moan too much. Although he was rubbish.

Chopra
Stuart Slater
Matteo Sereni
Baltacha

I am with you on Chopra - expected so much more.

I would add Jaime Peters for the same reason - I really thought he was going to be so much more.

Tom Adeyemi too.

EDIT: Add Tamas Priskin and Sam Parkin to that. Of course Tamas is an anagram of "It's Sam Parkin" too.

You're obviously younger than me for thou hast not included the notorious Graham Harbey.

That was a worst signing, not a disappointing one. Poor beggar was out of his depth from the start.

Stuart Slater
Amir Karic - I think he was lauded as ‘the Tank’ or something. He was pretty hopeless as I recall.

Whilst reading this thread I was trying to think of that player who if my memory is correct , signed at the same time as Boncho Genchev. East European name but not sure if he was East European if that makes sense. Also made me look up Genchev and I didn't realise in 61 appearances he only scored 6 goals.

He was around 2008.

Bontcho and Bozinoski were the ones from the early 90s.

Bang on. We would have had a repeat of 1994/95 if they hadn't been involved in that team. They both were just the scapegoats for some.

Stuart Slater, he was a Sudbury lad and was the one we all looked up to has kids as the one who had made the grade. I really wanted to see him do well for us.

Cooked for him a few times over the years, nice bloke.

Sereni was a bang average keeper, decent shot stopper but awaful at crosses and a bad attitude, terrible waste of £4.5m, Poom waould have been so much better.

The only Muff in Town.

For me, much the same as others.

1. Lee Martin - awful
2. Sam Parkin - banged them in for Swindon. 20 mins into his home debut it was clear his limit was L1
3. Stuart Slater - promised so much at WHU, was hopeless by the time he came to us.
4. Paul Taylor - Peterborough gales of laughter must still be echoing around their board room after mugging us off with that. They robbed us blind.
5. Jonathan Douglas - billed as the goalscoring midfielder we needed. What we got was somebody ambling about the pitch looking like he was keeping his knees together because he hadn’t been for a couple of days. One of the worst players it’s been my misfortune to witness in a Town shirt and in the past 21 years there’s been some pretty stiff opposition.

I was not disappointed by Chopra. Everyone knew what he was before he came. That we were dumb enough to entertain more of the same was our problem. It was never going to end well.

Old ones - Harbey was utterly hopeless, but nobody knew anything about him anyway so no disappointment there.

Robson’s only turkey was Kevin O’Callaghan. Bought from Millwall, he came with a good billing for I think £200k, but for the top flight he never made the grade, sadly. Did well 8n Escape to Victory though!

If Le Pen is being counted then Civelli should too.

Slater always springs to mind for these.

Nobody gone for Adam Proudlock?

Civelli was a very sad signing, rather than disappointing.

Please ! What can you say about that terrible defence in front of him then?

He would single handedly keep us clean sheets or save points (Everton, Aston Villa, Inter, all of this at Portman Road). Bad attitude, yes possibly as it seems strange to have asked for the rest ahead of Dagenham & Redbridge game.

He was fine. The defence was an utter embarrassment.

Harsh on JET. Did well enough in his first year and then along came MM - that was never going to work. Not a dig, just reality.

State of this.

I see Sereni is getting a thumping on here. He was actually a very, very good goalkeeper, who wasn't used to the grind in English football. The first half of that season, he was great. I don't think he comes close to the most disappointing signing in ITFC history.

I think you could name anyone during the Evans era. Plus Lee Chapman.

I think £4.5m for 25 games (do we call that a ‘grind’?) and a guy that upset the dressing room is disappointing.

Folks being disappointed they didn’t see more of this good goalkeeper is justified.
