Does anyone feel that the club should have a song that gives it an identity that no one else has.
We have a global sensation in Ed Sheeran who is devoted to the club and a long life fan. I absolutely love when fans from another club belt out their song with pride. Surely with Ed and his list of hits we could adopt one to be out own?!
Personally I think "Perfect" fits perfectly, excuse the pun.
Imagine 29,000 belting that out every game. Goosebumps! Sometimes the slow and emotional songs is what gets the players pumped and fans up for it.
Maybe the club or Ed himself could choose 2 or 3 songs and the fans could even vote. But perfect would be sick!!
I found a love, for me Darling, just dive right in and follow my lead Well, I found a girl, beautiful and sweet Oh, I never knew you were the someone waiting for me 'Cause we were just kids when we fell in love Not knowing what it was I will not give you up this time But darling, just kiss me slow Your heart is all I own And in your eyes, you're holding mine Baby, I'm dancing in the dark With you between my arms Barefoot on the grass Listening to our favourite song When you said you looked a mess I whispered underneath my breath But you heard it Darling, you look perfect tonight
What if we changed up the lyrics and you got a personal shout-out?
I found a club, for me Illy, just dive right in, and si-ng with glee I've found a team, in blue and white so neat Oh, I always knew you were the one that ca-n't be beat
'Cause we were just kids when we fell for Town Not knowing who Floriana was I will not give you up this time But Illy, just chant with pride Portman Road is where we reside And on the pitch, success will shine
Illy, we're singing in the stands With scarves held in our hands Players on the grass Listening to this victory song When Alf said we'd reach the top I whispered underneath my breath But you heard it Ipswich, you look perfect tonight
Let's be honest, it's still not a good fit. He just needs to make a song that is dedicated Ipswich or Suffolk, then I'm sure people would sing it if it is half decent.
I’ve messaged Ed to see if he can help with the lyrics 🤣

Edward Ebeneezer is just a little annoying little ditty. It’s not and never will be an ‘Anthem’ that would Galvanise a crowd or team!
Would be nice to have one of Ed’s. Always thought Country Roads would get everyone singing! As someone else said though, these things tend to happen by accident!
Forest sing Mull of Kintyre, or Sheff Utd’s Chip Butty song always seems impressive at start of matches!
It's been sung this season and last. The main issue is not the song it's the fans.
Competing ideas about how/what support should be and singing three songs at once all don't help. There's even people slagging off BA now, but it should be EEJB.
It's proper. It's ours. It doesn't feature the word scrimmage.
IFK Göteborg in Sweden have one of the greatest club songs. It's soppy, passionate and the lyrics are from a local lad. Imagine creating anything close to this at Portman road!

Hammarby's 'Just idag är jag stark' is as good, or better, and more of the 'Sunshine on Leith' variety i.e. borrowed, not specially written for the club. Malmö FF on the other hand about fifteen years ago commissioned a song so as not to be outdone, and it''s been a big success. They had to change the original lyrics which were vaguely fascist, warbling on about how 'fathers and grandfathers stood here before us...' , kind of missing the point that half the crowd has an immigrant background. (I nearly got punched for refusing to stand and sing that.)
I'd love that, or indeed anything that becomes a proper anthem. Arsenal have recently adopted the 'North London Forever' bit, and Sunshine on Leith is incredible for Hibs.
Problem is, these really need to happen almost by accident as if you ever suggest an idea it'll never get widespread support because music tastes are so varied.
Football songs are the modern cultural equivalent of old sea shanties - easy to remember, rousing and with regional adaptation and variation. I've thought for a long time we could adapt one of the old classics. So I submit (to the tune of Leave Her Johnny Leave Her):
Ipswich, Oh my Ipswich Oh, Ipswich, oh my Ipswich When the season's done And the Town are up We'll be heading to the Premier League
Ack you weren't there when the North stand used to sing it in full voice, its a good song.
It's not our fault the club picked a band from SGRs country & western hour, because they were local and no doubt cheap to sing the "official version" and it ends up sounding like some rubbish pub band ditty.

EEJB is a fun song and its ours and it will always get a bit of an airing. But it is not a song that will ever be sung by a whole stand let alone the whole ground. It's not anthemic!
To have a song that generates an atmosphere it needs to be an anthem.
Must admit, whilst I'm not a huge fan of his music that would sound awesome belted out by a full stadium, like when the players sang it in the dressing room. Not sure why so many downarrows. It would definitely be unique to us.
I think it would be great. Arsenal sing a slow song before kick off. Think it’s called Angel. Sounds really good with a full stadium belting it out.

Indeed. People would say "You'll Never Walk Alone" is too slow/soppy if it were suggested now, yet it's probably the greatest football anthem of all time.
With "Perfect", if you imagine it's about ITFC rather than a girl it actually works quite well...
"I found a love, for me" (ITFC)
"'Cause we were just kids when we fell in love Not knowing what it was I will not give you up this time" (I, like I suspect most of us, fell in love with ITFC when I was just a kid, and no matter the bad times I couldn't give them up).
"Baby, I'm dancing in the dark" (Celebrating a goal/victory under the lights at Portman Road is always special).
"Barefoot on the grass" (On the pitch, on the pitch, on the pitch!)
The more I think about the suggestion the more I like it. Given the players singing it with Ed in the dressing room, I think they'd like it too.
It’s been said a thousand times before but it should be “ The Story of the Blues”

All you Blue Action boys (and girls), have a listen to Story Of The Blues , by Wah! Great chorus, and easy to remember. It would sound fantastic at Portman Road. Go and hear Wah! Play it live at John Peel centre, Stowmarket on Saturday night.

The Old Grey Whistle Test - will people be humming it on the way home?
For me there are some 'football anthem' tests
Not too long or short Everyone can remember the words and join in No high notes Not too fast An opportunity to belt something out during it Can carry on when DJ turns music off

wiki indicates that Chester FC have adopted this as their song.
