Now that the club has confirmed Morsy chose not to wear the armband, how do our LGBTQ fans feel about this?
Like I say I would continue the interesting conversation we were having but that thread is locked.

In the spirit of reconciliation and happiness at the end of the Banter Era (RIP) and as a result of promotion I have cleared out my ignore list. Look forwards to reading your posts!
Poll: With Evans taking 65% in Huddersfield, is the Banter Era over?

A search reveals it's been picked up by the national newspapers, such as the Mirror, Mail and Sun, which in my view is not good publicity for the club.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-14148793/Premier-League-capta

His refusal has gone down well on the comments section of the Mail article, but I suppose the Mail and many of its readers must be torn between which group (Muslims or LGBT) they dislike the most.

Does anyone know if the rest of the players will wear rainbow laces tomorrow (they didn't on Saturday), and will the club give any publicity on the day to the initiative?

Just asked gay Barry at work about this, gave him the full details.

Asked as a gay man, if he followed Town how he’d view this…

After some time he replied ‘I’ve googled Sam, but got distracted by Wes Burns. He could leave a bad taste in my mouth’

Then did a winked emoji… he’s not taking this as seriously as I’d hoped he would.

That is true but based on the amount of players who have praised Morsy as a captain and person it would appear unlikely that he would treat anyone like that.

I think there is a big difference between condemning it (hate) and not being seen to promote it (hands tied due to religion).

Pretty much as simple as an answer as it comes.

His hands aren't tied. Sadiq Khan is a Muslim and has actively participated in London Pride events.

My view is that he is in a leadership position, and one duty of being in such a position is to promote these sorts of things. As a senior-ish manager in a large organisation I saw these types of activities as being my responsibility in the position I was in and my personal beliefs were irrelevant. Every job description for a leadership position in that organisation required people to promote the organisation's inclusion policy – something Morsy would fail on.

I disagree. Only captain to not wear one - I’m glad they have. Some of the replies on the News story though, Christ alive.

Yep. Some corkers on there.
Sad really.

Distortion becomes somehow pure in its wildness.

But you're effectively saying you should just promote whatever the organization thinks is correct, right? Presumably at some point your personal beliefs would come into play? To some extent, where you work does affect what you need to promote but I don't think encouraging personal beliefs of individual employees to be irrelevant is correct.

but that’s just your opinion, someone might think the total opposite based on their opinion.

Wouldn’t make either of you correct, the only person that knows for sure is SM.

Absolutely, and given that we don't know there's little point discussing it. All I know is there's no evidence of him doing anything hateful, so I'm not sure why anyone would go with the side that he would/might.

The mostly likely outcome, given what we know, is he'd keep quiet on the issue and do nothing one way or the other.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

The opposite also applies of the lefty Guardian readers, no? Having to decide who deserves the highest pedestal and most special of special treatment, Muslims or LGBTs!

If you are going to post on the subject, at least get it right.

LGBTQIA+

Last I checked it was LGBTQIA2S+

But that was a while ago, has probably grown.

Given the function of the + symbol however, may as well call it L+

Anyway my other thought on the issue - choosing not to take the (semi enforced and therefore meaningless) pro-active step of wearing such a thing is NOT the same as being discriminatory towards gay fans or footballers. It is possible to be open and welcoming to all whilst choosing not to openly celebrate specific characteristics.

If you're in a leadership position at that company, yes.

Discouraging personal beliefs that are not in line with inclusivity or discrimination legislation is a good thing as far as I'm concerned.

The way I see it is it's his choice Sammy is paid to play football for ITFC does wearing a armband be it rainbow or plain make any difference to how he plays? No has he come out and said anything against the movement? No he has just decided that he will keep wearing the same one he has for past 3 yrs do to his personal beliefs

..... that he does not support gay rights? That reflects directly on the club and us - the supporters.

Glad your previous thread was blocked what rainbow gay rights got to do with football . I have quite a few gay town supporters I class as good friends stop making a big issue about it live and let live. We all have various views about life. I will always support my gay friends providing they are not from north of the devide

To be clear, I don't think Morsy should be club captain. His religious beliefs are incompatible with the role.

So you are saying we should not have a captain of our club who is a practising Moslem?
What message would that send out to young up and coming Moslem footballers or indeed trying to attract supporters from that faith?
