Blackburn put case to EFL 14:58 - Sep 21 with 16603 viewsParky

To either get given the win, or replay the 10 minutes. No surprise I guess, I’m sure we’d be doing the same if the shoe was on the other foot.

Surely it won’t happen, but imagine making us go back up there to play 10 minutes, wonder how many fans would go.

They really can't do anything other than restage it. If it was 4-0 to one side or the other, then there might be a chance of awarding it to the leading team. But there was 10 minutes plus perhaps another 10 minutes of injury time to go, so there was no certainty of the result at 1-0.

If the teams come back for the final 10 minutes plus injury time, could they force us to play the 10* which was on the field at the time? What if players subsequently get injured? Could we claim a number of our defensive players are injured and play all our available attackers in their place? We'd have nothing to lose by doing so given the position.

*Amended, 10, obviously.

Errr, we didn't have 11 on the field at the time.

There is a claim that when Dynamo Moscow played one of their friendlies over here after the war, I think at Arsenal, which my uncle went to funnily enough, that the game was played in thick fog and they sneaked on a 12th player without the referee realising. However, I believe I later read that the tale was made up by Brian Glanville.

Leyton Orient had a game abandoned in the 84th minute for a medical emergency, whilst winning 1-0., in 2023.

The game was ordered to be replayed in full - that would be the precedent for lateness of a game, being instructed to be replayed in full.

Full of it that Glanville.

Although the one about the keeper who stood there 20 mins after the game had been abandoned always makes me smile

The key part I would be highlighting to stop the 10 minute game, is that we had just made three attacking subs and they were playing against tiring legs.

The EFL can see that we had made those subs, and the stats in the game show that it was still a fairly even contest.

To make it fair, exactly the same players would be required to play and those who had been on the pitch would have to spend an equivalent amount of time on a treadmill with resistance covering the same distance immediately before playing. Those on yellow cards would have to still have their cards, etc, etc. It just isn't practical, especially when a player is not available for whatever reason.

I am sure the whole match will be replayed.

You should have told that one to McKenna before Oxford. We could definitely have got away with 15 in that match. Then again, perhaps both sides did!

Don't know how you could argue for a ten+ minute replay. Would mean loads of travel, costs etc for 10/15 mins of play, plus it completely negates the point of having a strong bench. Being able to bring on good, fresh players against Blackburn was a massive benefit for us - that'll be lost if they get to play with 11 fresh players for the final 10 mins.

Get those players on an exercise bike for however long they'd been on the field to tire the players out. Getting complicated innit.

The feeling of unfairness to Blackburn is clear. Goal up, man up and 79 mins on the clock. If, however, they are in some ways to blame for the state of the pitch ie cr@p drainage), then that takes away their moral argument. If we can also try and link the sending off and the penalty to the state of the pitch as well as affecting most of the second half - then that's a strong case for a full replay.

I’d be hopping mad in their shoes but this has happened many times before and it’s always a replay from my memory. Let’s put it this way, you just know if we’d been 11 v 10 and one up, the oppo would have lumped one in the box and it would have gone in off someone’s backside, so any result was still possible. Playing a shortened game to finish it can’t work as surely all conditions, players on the pitch, length of injury time etc would have to be the same which I’d think likely impossible depending on when the game would be.

10 minute replay.OK, but as it’s due to their bad drainage the travel costs of all 4000 Town fans are payable by Blackburn. For any that are unable to attend, their admission is refunded in full.

I think we had to replay the match in full when the game against Middlesbrough at PR was abandoned due to a frozen pitch.

Rubbish from Blackburn... they are asking the EFL to assume what might happen in the last 10 + added time.... so what if we where to do yhe same and assume we'd get an equaliser??? Would they be happy to accept a ruling where the points were shared... the final 10 cant be replayed as youd need the conditions to be replicated that put yhe game in that position?.... a replay is the only way the situation can and SHOULD be remedied.

They have no case. They had similar issues a season or two ago so perhaps they should have invested in a better drainage system.

The pitch was unplayable for most of the second half and the two major incidents, Greaves sending off and their penalty were affected by the weather.

Hey now, hey now, don't dream it's over

I can just about accept the argument to play the final 10-15 minutes, 11 v 10, though obviously can't guarantee the same players will be available. But to just give Blackburn the win, when we were the team on the front foot with the amount of time left? It would be farcical.

Can't remember the score, but Boro had a long injury list and were desperate to get it stopped. Town had a player who had to go off with a knee injury as well before it was stopped.

Which was ridiculous we couldn't make it playable but classic Evans era stuff. I remember ending up at the Malt Kiln or whatever it's called drinking large whiskies and feeling rather bilious.

And I wonder what their case would be the other way round?? Given we have scored a few late goals and part fo the problem is their ground maintenance I would hope we would strongly resist for the full replay

Also, we will obviously put our case forward.

It will include…

Game should’ve been stopped a lot earlier than it was.

Penalty decision was down to pitch conditions.

George Hirst got a yellow for a perfectly good tackle.

Jacob Greaves slipped for the red card as well. Yes, from start to finish it was impossible to play football properly, the ball was getting stuck in patches all the way through.

There may well be some referees who wouldn’t have started the game with that area near the centre circle on the Riverside stand side.

Blackburn need to look at their own pitch quality as not many games get called off by rain these days. And it’s happened recently up there.
