Anyway, right decision from Starmer. Labour needs to demonstrate that it's complaints procedures are robust and yesterday failed at that regardless of the verdict reached.

Do we want a new Corbyn 15 pager today or just to add to yesterday's? on 11:16 - Nov 18 with 2098 views | StokieBlue | I was listening to two different Labour members this morning on my early morning cycle and basically they had totally opposite views on it. One was most annoyed that JC had jumped ahead of 100's of other cases waiting to be assessed. I don't see how it's not going to fracture the party if the factionalism continues much longer. SB

Or you could say the party are doing all they can to distance themselves from the issue that has plagued the party, quite obviously, for years. That includes distancing themselves from the leader of the party in that period who refused to take proper action at any real point of his reign.

Absolutely exasperating that a swathe of the Labour party (generally the furthest-left swathe) continues to see the common enemy as Labour itself rather than the one that is staring the rest of us in the face. [Post edited 18 Nov 2020 11:57]

Do we want a new Corbyn 15 pager today or just to add to yesterday's? on 11:59 - Nov 18 with 1936 views | Darth_Koont | Starmer, despite his statements to the contrary, seems determined to not be a unity leader (and not be a socialist either but that’s another issue). His ludicrous assertion prepared before the EHRC report was made public that the exaggerated antisemitism smears can’t be addressed set this whole ball rolling. He wanted Corbyn to accept being thrown under the bus and then to move on. Problem is that there’s an awful lot of people who know that the smear campaign happened. And that to leave that lazy characterisation of the party and former leader as antisemitic was never going to work, not least because the EHRC report makes nothing like that assertion even tangentially. Now he’s doubled down on that characterisation as well as angering those who know it’s pretty weak. Way to go. He’s got the worst of both worlds now. It also shows the sort of incompetence and politicizing of issues in the leadership office beyond anything Corbyn was accused of. And again these manoeuvrings overshadow genuine cases of antisemitism and ignores the lessons that can and should be learnt from the EHRC report.

It might have helped had Corbyn not created the situation through suggesting the issue of antisemitism was exaggerated on the day the EHRC report came out.

Not sure that’s borne out by the last 5 years at all. Senior figures on the Labour right have been active in campaigning and briefing against Corbyn, in public and in the media that they have much more access to than the left but also behind closed doors. That factionalism has now been enshrined in the approach from the new Labour leader’s office. As you say, the real enemy is the Tories and it’s imperative to remove them. But the Labour right has spent the previous 5 years punching left and they were also less than committed during Milliband’s leadership. Meanwhile Boris is outflanking them on the Green Industrial Revolution that Labour absolutely owned a year or two ago. That’s what happens when parties are divided and stuck in their own internal wrangles and also don’t talk policy in opposition.

Think they’re entitled to be annoyed considering part of the centrist arm conspired to cost Labour an election in 2017.

But that was primed by Starmer’s prepared response that was shown to Corbyn. That specific issue about not addresssing the exaggerated political or factional nature of a lot of this was put in by Starmer as he wanted to sweep that all under the carpet. Seems like cack-handed authoritarianism or he and the Labour right ghouls wanted the fight. There was an opportunity to address the EHRC report soberly, respectfully and learn from it re: recommendations. The smear campaign after all is a separate issue. But they couldn’t resist trying to create political capital out of it. [Post edited 18 Nov 2020 12:17]

It's been said so many times that this is nonsense. Even if you think Labour's low polling in 2016/17 was down to backbenchers not supporting Corbyn, the only reason May called a snap election that year was down to low polling. So either way, there would have been no Labour government in 2017.

The EHRC report actually recognizes that there were significant improvements in the processes and the speed when the leadership and Jenny Formby the new General Secretary got involved. What happened in the previous 18 months shows the Labour right and traditional party power against Corbyn in a very disturbing light.

Maybe, maybe not. It was still awful and anti-democratic behaviour that the party seems unwilling to address even with the Forde Inquiry more concerned with how the information was leaked. The Labour right then amped up the attacks after 2017, showing themselves who they exactly were and not at all interested in getting the Tories out but protecting their own narrow interests and influence. If these are the same people now at the helm, Labour deserve to implode and a proper opposition party to emerge in its place.
