I guess you've answered though. I get that you'd rather have Downes over Evans on an individual level, but Downes would need a ball player like Evans next to him for it to work.
Evans has had arguably his best two games of the season in the last week, he's looking a lot more promising than when he had Harper alongside. [Post edited 27 Oct 2021 15:16]

He really wouldn't. There's a reason Downes is looking very capable in the second tier and it's because he's a very good player. The notion that he's not as good as two late 20s CMs plying their trade for us in League 1 is rather odd. | |

Depends how you define bombed out I guess. Downes is firmly a Championship player, and a good one at that. I thought there were some curious decisions in the summer and I'm not really convinced otherwise now, such as triggering Jackson's extension while simultaneously treating Bishop like poo. It's easy to deride last years squad, and for most of them it's justified, but I still don't think they were given anything like the tools to do their jobs and there was an element of baby out with the bathwater in a few instances. |  |

The Jackson extension continues to make no sense. Even if we managed to get a fee for him (unlikely) it will be 200k at most. We’ll have paid that in wages by the time we get rid of him. I guess with Norwood still busy bantering and being injured there is a case for having another striker in the squad just in case Bonne or Piggott were injured. | |

I agree with this - think he could do a job for us both at CM and LB - a good squad player at least. Saw him and Downes together at Liverpool Street a couple of weeks ago - did a quick search and apparently Nydam is still training at Ipswich while looking for a club. I think he’s one of those you really hope it works out for. |  |
