For those that like this kind of spurious thing!

There were a couple of defensive frailties that came from nowhere against Barnsley. I’m expecting us to put that right in the weeks ahead.

From what we’ve seen from us and the opposition this season we’ve got enough about us to go unbeaten through Sept.

Accrington Stanley (a) - 3points
Cambridge Utd (h) - 3points
Bristol Rovers (h) - 3points
Sheffield Wednesday (a) - 1point
Plymouth (a) - 1point

5 games, 11 points forecast

I’m going to say between 8 and 10 points.

Quite a set of tricky fixtures on paper, but a couple of additional things I’ve noticed. Accrington haven’t lost in the league yet, they really do punch above their weight at our level. A side we always seem to struggle against at their place. I’m sure they will make it an uncomfortable afternoon next Saturday. Plymouth have conceded 7 goals this season from their 6 league games, but they were all shipped in their two defeats.

If we come through these next 5 league fixtures still unbeaten especially with a couple of tricky away games, then perhaps we can all start believing? I’m going to go with 9pts, but I’m not sure how they will be accumulated.

That would be an almost unbelievable start - to get to October undefeated in the league. On paper it looks on doesn’t it, but we’re bound to trip up somewhere. I think we’ll do exceptionally well if we get a draw against Sheff Weds, who I expect to be our biggest rivals this year.

Likely to be a slip up or two in this bunch but if we can get nine or 10 points from it we're doing fine.

I agree.

My only logic is we’ve done a little better against the traditional type of L1 teams that lob the ball at us and create the defensive wall Eg Shrewsbury and Burton, and we’ve done ok when facing some adversity, Eg Bolton and several set backs against Barnsley.

Don't think you are far off there. Would really hope to pick up a win, however ugly, against either Sheff Weds or Plymouth to show we can beat one of the other favourites. Nixing our Sky hoodoo would be good as well.

Tougher month…. on 08:50 - Aug 29 with 2694 viewsBloots

….which could well see us drawing blanks at Sheffield and Plymouth.

Cambridge will undoubtedly raise their game and make it a tough one.

I’ll say a disappointing but realistic haul of 7 in total.

Accrington Stanley (a) - 1 point
Cambridge Utd (h) - 3 points
Bristol Rovers (h) - 3 points
Sheffield Wednesday (a) - 0 points
Plymouth (a) - 1 point

I’m going for 8 points in Sept which would give us a total of 22 points from 11 games.

Got a feeling we’ll feel our first defeat this month sadly. I’ll go with the below although not sure on the Andy Holt derby… we could come unstuck there again.

Accrington Stanley (a) - 1-0 win (+3)
Cambridge Utd (h) - 3-1 win (+3)
Bristol Rovers (h) - 2-0 win (+3)
Sheffield Wednesday (a) - 0-2 loss (0)
Plymouth (a) - 1-1 draw (+1)

Not unrealistic, and would keep us on and above the 2PPG average.

The first three games have to be bread and butter wins for a side wanting automatic promotion.

10 points overall. 3 very tough away games there and I can't see us staying unbeaten through all of them.

That's pretty much what I'd say we should be aiming for. Tho Accrington could be tricky in the same way Burton was. Cambridge are strong at the Abbey but less so away. Plymouth are very strong at their place, not yet having let in a goal, while we've only conceded one on the road. Likely to be very tight, possibly a 0 - 0. Wednesday score a lot at home, so our defence will need to be on their toes.

We’ll lose at Accrington and Wednesday, draw with Rovers, win the rest.

Perhaps - but you can really see on this thread how the years of disappointment and anxiety have added the wrinkles to our good cheer.

As long as we win the league it won't matter any way. All these people twitching like bumholes of doom are going to do themselves a mischief by Christmas.

As is suggested in another thread, aim for 15 points. Why not?

Realistically 10 or more would be great and very possible, especially as we have three of those in the bank.

One thing hugely in our favour is the defence. Just over a goal every other game this season and plenty of matches last season post-KM without conceding. Defence is very much the key to McKenna’s team.

Obviously we are soon to face more potent attacks, but that may just suit us at the other end of the pitch.
