Very complimentary write up. Its such great experience for his development for him to be so involved and playing so well for an upwardly mobile club. Must've been a tough call in January whether we leave him there or bring him back to cover, in hindsight and with the injury to Evans the latter might've been the better option.

I have family in the area who follow Orient and absolutely love him. What do you think his chances are of being part of first team next season?

I think he has to come back in the Summer to have a good look at him again. He's coming to the perfect age. Maybe we don't need the Peterborough lad.

He'd have played the odd game for us, that was the problem there

He's better placed at Orient playing week in week or out?

I feel terribly abashed for asking this .... but ... what's a number four? Is it another name for a number six? Or a totally new position... ie base tip of a diamond!? Must admit I've never heard of a number four.

Number 6 is central defence, along with number 5.

And for the avoidance of any doubt:
1 - GK
2 - Right Back
3 - Left Back
4 - Centre Midfield, usually more defensive.
5 - Centre Back (on the left)
6 - Centre Back (on the right)
7 - Right wing / midfield
8 - Centre Midfield, usually more attacking.
9 - Centre Forward, usually the big strong one.
10 - Forward, usually slightly behind the 9.
11 - Left wing / midfield.

Anyone who says otherwise is some kind of nouveau football fan who speaks a load of hipster guff.

Messrs Beattie, Hunter, Osman and Butcher might argue about which sides five and six play!

I think 4 and 6 are basically the same thing, not 100% sure on that though as generally you hear about 6s and 8s.....

Hard to know really - seems like it will be a challenge to get there but wonder how Ball, Camara and Evans all recover from their long term injuries. Someone like Evans I think will struggle in the Championship now wrong side of 30 with a number of long term injuries

You might be surprised to find that Evans is still only 28!

Agree with the general gist though. It must also be remembered that El-Miz was firmly on the radar of Brentford a couple of years ago, and we know their recruitment department is not too shabby to say the least.

Think he'd have been ahead of Humphreys potentially so would have got some decent game time.

Very complimentary of the lad - it has clearly been a really successful loan spell, and hopefully something that can benefit both teams longer term with future loans.

Orient have had some decent central midfielders in the past decade including John Lundstram and more notably Steven Alzate who is in the similar age bracket to Idris, and ultimately moved to Brighton and has featured many times in the PL.

Whether he might be better off playing week in / week out is slightly beside the point in this analysis to my mind. All that should matter should be “would recalling him increase ITFC’s chances of promotion”. The team making the decision must have taken the view that at the time, he would not, particularly given we added Luongo - in hindsight we can all argue that point, but his development ought to have been a secondary consideration.

I'm not particularly fussed which way round 5 and 6 are - the teams I played in tended to be 5 on the left and 6 on the right, but they're pretty interchangable.

But 5 and 6 are both definitely centre-backs, whichever way round they are.

I would say it is a holding midfield player - a Busquets or Rodri type, although based on that article they're playing a four man midfield so rather one who sits as the other bursts forward (so I guess Morsy would be our equivalent in there).

He has two and half years on his contract, assuming we trigger this additional year, so the plan should be for him to play in L1 next season and see how he does.

It could be with Orient if they go up or a new loan club where he will get game time. I suspect it will not be us even if we do not go up this season.

Michael Cox's Zonal Marking website had a handy glossary of this kind of terminology but since he's been hoovered up by The Athletic it seems to have disappeared from the internet.

I have watched him come through the teams and unfortunately I do not share the enthusiasm for him that abounds on here. I do not think he would play much part in a Championship campaign. In my view he will be sold if a decent offer comes in, if the powers that be had an optimistic outlook on his future he would have been recalled in January. Remember in addition to the midfield we have operating at the moment we have Camara and Ball to come back.

Hopefully I will be proven wrong.

I think Evans would be a bit slow in the championship.
His passing would be stopped, and think the pace would do him

I've always liked Idris and I can't think of a game he played for us when he let anyone down. He could dp no more this season to impress his employers at ITFC but you are right. With everyone fit, the competitions for 2 midfield berths is stiff and that's excluding Harper. I see him as an eventual successor to Morsy but he will not displace Samy in the short term. Big decision for the club and player in the summer. I fear we will sell to the Os and live to regret it.

Seems like it would have been sensible to recall him in Jan?

With Ball, Camara and Evans all out, we knew we were short. Luongo also has his fitness issues.
