I think I was on sabbatical for the Badenoch stuff but I remember pulling him up for comments about both Carrie and Boris Johnson. The fat shaming stuff of Boris, whilst not as bad as the misogyny, was always unnecessary and unpleasant.

Fascinating who is willing to defend Brand without even looking at the detailed allegations.

The whole Andrew Sachs thing was a massive red flag a long time ago too.

It was a massive red flag. And I remember getting poo pooed at the time on here for condemning Brand and Ross at the time. If I recall correctly, the defence of Brand from his fanboys in here was that more people complained about the incident than actually heard it.

This also calls into question Miliband’s judgement going to Brand’s home begging for an endorsement on the even of the 2015 general election with the knowledge of the Sachs incident.

It was true though, there were more complaints after the event was reported than from people listening to it as it aired.

I really don't think it's a red flag or remotely comparable to the latest allegations. The Sachs incident was two silly men getting out of hand on an answerphone message. Ross was more the culprit - blurting out "He f-ed your grandaughter" when Brand was going to leave a much different, non-offensive message, and then it got out of hand as they one-upped each other for comedic effect.

It was unplanned and spur of the moment - but also not live. So the other bizarre thing is once everyone had calmed down the production team decided it was fine to put out.

And again, I don't think any of this relates to the current allegations.

He's been hiding in plain sight for many years really. Most of his memoirs seem to be about his "shagging exploits" and he openly brags about this in interviews and articles.

If he has sexually assaulted women then it needs to become a police matter, and the women involved need to make formal criminal complaints.

Have you read the memoirs? They're mostly about mental health problems, loneliness/being an outsider, not having a father and then drug addiction, with sex addiction and a quest for fame as things to fill the void after drugs, particularly the first book. They're not really "about his shagging exploits".

I was surprised that there have been no complaints about him given how this has blown up. We seem to play everything out in the news/social media these days. But then again, maybe this will encourage people to come forward if they have been abused by him.

This is precisely what is going on. The exact nature of the documentary was suppressed for a while, but at various points the suggestion was that the scope went beyond Brand.

Dispatches are clearly sitting on more, but it seems clear to me that they are hoping for a response similar to what happened with Weinstein, now that these women have come forward and spoken out. The documentary included a female production assistant who said that at the peak he was having sex with 5 different women a day.

This was the biggest open secret in comedy, and as I said in another post, there was a list circulated on closed Comedy Imdustry Facebook groups of other comedians and promoters, which I saw. The documentary referred to female comics swapping information via WhatsApp, too.

There will be a follow up from Dispatches, whether about Brand, or the wider comedy industry, I am sure.

That seems a bit of a stretch. He talks about sex addiction rather than abuse of women (obviously one could follow the other, but it's not a given) and all this had already happened, so it's not getting excuses in early. Unless you're suggesting he planned to do worse in the following 16 years.

I’ll have to respectfully disagree with you dubbers. When I was pulling him fur sone of the racist remarks he aimed at the likes of Badenoch on here over a year ago I was told that if I was more offended by Harry’s attacks on Tories rather than what the Tories were doing to the country then it said an awful lot more about me than Harry.

He was indulged by a certain section of people in here because of who he was aiming his remarks at. It’s only been noticed more recently because he’s widened his net somewhat.

Racist remarks aimed at Badenoch were tolerated because, well it was Badenoch. Misogynist posts aimed at Carrie Johnson were tolerated because, well it it was Boris Johnson’s wife.

Any arguments he makes are instantly diminished by the use of personal insults he throws in. I tend to ignore him now cos you know you're not going to get a decent debate with him, just labelled a "righty thicko" if you disagree with him.

I guess they won't because why would a woman want to put herself through everything that will come with this? Having a highly paid legal team pore over every part of her life and every sexual encounter she's ever had or what she's worn on nights out, or ex-boyfriends paid to spill what she is like in the bedroom etc to build a character of her.

And that's before you mention his army of social media followers who already think this is a big witchhunt because he has disagreed with covid vaccines, and the mainstream media etc. Their lives will be hell, he'll quietly get away with it and continue to grift on social media platforms

The production team also let the podcast come out, and then they let his show go out live, and then the podcast for that went out before the complaints started and the BBC reacted to it.

I'd agree with it not being a 'red flag', at the time Sachs' Granddaughter was in a group called the Satanic Sluts and he was the most promiscuous person on the celebrity scene. I'm sure she may look back on it now with regret, and how his and JR's actions made it blow up like it did, will obviously temper that. But everyone looks back at mistakes they made when they were young and a different person but doesn't mean it wasn't consensual and what they wanted at the time

Whilst I understand that, it is also a case of trial via social media now. Brand has not been charged or sentenced with anything but most seem certain he is guilty, and others certain of his innocence. Allegations like this should be decided in court, not via the populace online. And perhaps the starting point is the Home Office looking at the way rape and sexual trials are run, so they're as fair towards the alleged victim and the accused.

Have a look at the conviction rate for rapists and the horrible things victims have to go through as part of the process and it's not hard to understand why victims might be reluctant to go to the police.

Whilst I agree with you say in principle, it has to be acknowledged that stories such as this (which I can't say I am following that closely) often bring forward more victims, meaning it more likely that at least some of the victims will be willing to put their head above the parapet and press charges because there is strength in numbers.

From recollection, this is what happened in the case of Harvey Weinstein.
