Not seen anything like this after a game before 17:25 - Sep 16 with 41844 viewsThe_Romford_Blue

About 100 Sheffield Wednesday youths with smoke bombs and their face covered have just kicked the sh*t out of about 30 of our fans (youths who were being lairy in response to the Wednesday fans waiting near the away end for a fight).

And now it’s happened again about 30 on 5. They’re just picking Ipswich fans out at this point. Some young lads just had his head stamped on in someone’s garden.

Suspect you’ll hear a lot about this on twitter and here tonight but there’s shirters on both sides getting caught up and women with their kids crying in the street. Coppers nowhere to be seen and it’s gone on 15 minutes ffs.

First time I’ve ever been relieved I’m not wearing Ipswich colours at an away game before. F**king animals and an embarrassment to their club.

A dampener on the day to be honest.

Poll: Would you take a draw tonight if offered right now?

They were starting to congregate outside the away end as we left. No colours, covering their faces, the silly clothes that they think makes them tough etc - the police were a few yards behind them but clearly were making no effort to stop them grouping. In fact the way they ‘funnelled’ us out of the away end made it easier for them to group up in front of leaving Ipswich fans.

Had same thing leaving Maine Rd. back in the '80s after an evening game.

The fuzz keeeping us back "for our own safety" simply made us easy targets when we were allowed to leave

what the hell has being from Yorkshire got to do with it. Idiotic comment.

At the euro final at Wembley, the absolute sht behaviour I witnessed, every single one had a northern accent. From chucking glass bottles in the air, to pushing their way through turnstiles, all northern scum

The OP said one hundred were involved (out of maybe 22,000 Wednesday fans), so a sweeping generalisation such as that is not justified. And that number accords with what I saw just as the trouble was kicking off.

Anyway, you're surely not trying to argue that the fans of Yorkshire clubs are worse than London fans of clubs like Chelsea, West Ham or Millwall, whom fans in the north might describe as dirty southern bastards?

Having experienced the 70s, my motto at away games, particularly after the game has ended, is to keep your wits about you, hide your colours, don't chant Ipswich songs and move away from potential trouble.

Of course, that is rather sad, but yesterday goes to prove what can happen if you don't take this approach.

As it was, when leaving the ground I spotted a group of what I took to be young Wednesday troublemakers on my right who overtook us and confronted Ipswich fans ahead of us. At that stage, we decided to head off in a different direction towards the tram stop beyond Leppings Lane, thinking there would be less chance of any trouble there and more chance of getting on the tram.

On the way into Sheffield, what I took to be the same group of young fans banged pretty hard on the tram windows when it stopped at a stop but it probably didn't help that there was an Ipswich fan on the tram trying to goad them.

Forgive me if I’m wrong , they’re from Yorkshire right ?

Makes them vile Yorkshire scum

And for the record my Mrs is from Yorkshire and I live in Sheffield and have many friends who are from yorkshire who are superb people …better than most

So in answer to your “idiotic “ reply / response - those attacking my fellow Town fans were/ are more than likely from Yorkshire and most definitely scum

Now go away you t1t

There was a smoke bomb that had been let off on one of the trams. Police can came speeding past and got about 6 people off. I think that tied up about 6 officers as they probably had to check it wasn't something worse.

We walked for about 30 minutes. I had no Ipswich shirt on and my Brother in Law and nephew had Wednesday shirts so we were fine.

The atmosphere around was horrible though. Just seemed like it was going to be a long night for the police. Ended up sticking my nephew on my shoulders walking past loads of Wednesday fans banging on the tram windows where some Ipswich fans were. Not how you want a 5 year old to experience match day.

And that's not even counting the self confessed gypsy Ipswich fan who wanted to fight everyone on the train.

Horrifying. Looks like he couldn’t avoid the girl, but handing her off was the others’ excuse for piling onto him. Hope he’s ok.

If it happens after every game, and the hotdog woman knows, how the hell don't plod ?

IT’s what they call turning a blind eye!! Trouble is that if they get involved they’ll be criticised for being heavy handed etc. or as it was not wanting to go against their local youth.
There’s a much younger crowd going to matches so fear it’s going to get worse until something more serious happens.

Not surprised. Two ran past me screaming "Die, Eepsweech. Dieeeee!"

Looked like in their mid-teens. Encountered a similar situation at Bramall Lane years ago as well. I wonder what kind of parenting goes on in Sheffield.

I mean if these happens every week then where are the police? Not a single one in sight. I don't think we are public enemy No.1 for them as well.

"I wonder what kind of parenting goes on in Sheffield."

The same mix of good, bad, ugly and inadequate as most of the country I would assume.

I haven't watched that but they haven't got their faces covered and should be clearly identifiable from that still image alone. If that is assault (as appears to be described), shouldn't it be evidence for the police rather than shared on Twitter and here?

With a bit of luck that’ll help the police (if they can be bothered about an assault).

Horrible stuff this. I hope we don’t start to see more of this creeping in, but I have noticed a lot more angry and obnoxious people at matches since Covid.

If nothing gets done, its because either the police lack resources or because local fans wont give the names of clearly identifiable animals.

Seems not quite in keeping with the rest of the thread but you are right. Can you imagine Darren Moore giving an interview like that? But their entitled fans thought they got promoted despite him instead of because of him!

The interviewer missed the most important question, though:

"Does your plan involve a turnip by any chance, Xisco?"
