If we are willing to pull the trigger on a £12m deal for McAteer then we are obviously confident we have the funds. Ashton/McKenna aren't going to suddenly say "oh fcuk, we have no money left for a central midfielder!"

Exactly. But I'm not sure whether we'd make the bid and still have enough for Egeli considering the other positions which need filling.

Norwegian. Not sure. Would seem well-covered for right-sided forwards now though.

So we've overlooked one of the hottest prospects in Scandinavian footy for Kasey McAteer. SMH.

Do we have the money to spend over £30m on ten's when we're still lacking in central midfield and striker options? Plus potentially having to bring in a Woolfenden replacement. Obviously Woolfenden himself will bring in something though don't know what our asking price is for him.

Yes, I think we do have the money for that (amortising it over contract lengths).

Anybody remember a Barcelona team who played without a proper striker? It's not as if we lack goal records across the rest of our front-line.

If everybody is shooting from anywhere, then defenders don't know who to mark.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

How will that make Ogbene feel?

Why are Leicester willing to let him go? Does he not start for them?

An odd one..

RIP Sir Bobby

So you're willing to spend around £17M on a 19 year old full international with no experience of English football but have concerns that £11.5M for a 23 year old full international with experience of English football is overpaying.

This is despite the 23yo having played a role in exactly what we are trying to achieve this season, as in a Championship winning side facing the pressure of promotion.

I really fail to understand what parts of our fan base expect this season and what would make them happy.

People just like new and shiny.

If he was called Carlos McAdinho and signing for £12m from Botafogo people would be creaming themselves over it. We would be digging out articles from 2021 where he was once labelled the next Kaka.

I'm all for taking punts on up and coming talent, but up and coming doesn't necessarily provide a level of consistency to achieve 90+ points in the EFL. Its brutal, the standard is fecking high and we need the right blend.

My only gripe is it feels £4m - £5m too much, but when you consider what we've generated it's poker chips.

Remember Egeli played most of his youth football as a number 9 though, and scored loads of goals hence the 'next Haaland' label. If you had him and Akpom as versatile options, would you need another striker?

Chaplin aside, we also don't have another left footed option drifting in off the right. There will be games when we prefer that to a direct right winger, as we saw in the promotion season with Omari playing there.

Excellent, already knows O'Shea, Taylor, Szmodics and Ogbene though his international experience which will help.

We could potentially be fielding close to 50% of a ROI team soon.

I’d rather the Norwegian - a much higher ceiling imo. As for McAteer, welcome and hope he does well. Seems expensive to me, but what do I know. That’s Wes’ ongoing absence covered.

On the Irish connection, I wonder if O'Shea as captain has had some influence on this. Maybe said to McKenna that this is a guy who'll really fit in here with our style of play.

My Leicester supporting mate says that McAteer is very raw & that's why he's seen by them as a bench warmer. This seems a huge fee for such a player who may have potential, but rarely starts for a club at a similar level.

What’s your take on the £10m we got for Broadhead?

…..probably about £2m-£3m more than I thought we’d get.

Not sure what your point is?

Leicester are in financial distress, and need to sell in order to try and get PSR back on track, and have any chance of new signings. They've sold and generated around £40M so far, if this is confirmed, and not yet brought anyone in.

And McAteer also has a history of being injured - a long spell out in each of the last 2 seasons.

Mentioned yesterday on here but I like this. A perfect squad player, versatile, a very good character (take a read of the Leicester forums), knows a lot of the boys here so can be integrated quickly, already fit so can contribute straight away. Nothing wrong with this at all.

The negativity is a bit ridiculous. Not even kicked a ball for us yet. Get behind the lad!

Do championship squad players cost £12m?

Unfortunately for him he’ll be judged on that fee.

Just as we all laughed at wolfswinkle for them at £8m

Welcome aboard to him tho, hope he’s a big success here

We just sold Broadhead for £10m and he's older than McAteer and only had a year left on his contract.

We haven't. We sold Broadhead for £7.5 mil + add ons. McAteer is £12Mil + add ons. (Possibly £11.5 from Phil). Broadhead was a good deal. This feels a better deal for Leicester.

BUT doesn't make the player a bad signing. Just the feelim. And we are in a difficult market. Will judge the window when all signings in and will judge Mcateer in his performances and not the fee.

But given that McAteer has been more involved for Leicester over the last 12 months than Broadhead has for us, that he only had a year left on his contract, and that he is four years older, do the fees feel that out of whack? I get we all want to feel like every deal is a good deal for the club but it does seem prices are inflated right now and we either don't pay and don't make additions or we pay prices that are inflated and benefit from receiving similarly inflated fees.

Akpom is a No.9 if we want to play him there. Scored almost 30 goals for Boro in one season before getting his move abroad.

We need a replacement/upgrade on AAH, but that's a hard sell with Hirst and Akpom already in the squad?

Akpom played mainly as a 10 for boro that season. Yes he is versatile but we undoubtedley still need another option in the 9 position.

I'll be in a minority here and that is absolutely fine.

I think this is a really astute piece of business. Headline figure 'feels' a lot but this is a 23yr old, a fee over 3 yrs (leaving headroom for more business) and a player that has a lot of the attributes that KM looks for and we need.

I've not seen huge amounts of him but what I have seen is decent, his return in the Championship is decent as a wide player, chipping in with both goals and assists and I think KM will develop him.

Yes, it's easy to make the comparison between Hutch and this fella but I'm not sure that is the right comparison. I see this signing as dealing with the Burns issue and I suspect more signings will follow.

Fee's in general are a little all over the place. We have categorically overpaid but it's the nature of the window.

When you say his return in the championship is decent with goals and assists though, what are you basing that on?

The boy has one single assist against his name for his entire career!

He's a 3m player in reality. But I don't see the point in getting stressed about fees, we aren't directly paying it as fans anymore, the game has long gone from that.

If he delivers this season the money will feel irrelevant anyway. If he doesn't, as per his career to date, then it'll feel a waste
