Embarrassed and a bit ashamed of the club today 19:47 - Mar 23 with 18241 viewsNutkins_Return

I'm sure I'll get a bit of 'i'm overreacting' downvotes but genuinely feel disgusted and embarrassed that reform our being hosted at our club. Personally don't think the club should be getting involved in anything with a political leaning to it from any party. But to host reform, and that cretinous toad Farage has really shocked me.
That's bad judgement and and Ashton has just sunk down massively in my estimation for allowing this.

Someone needs sacking for that lack of judgement. I hope Ashton didn't know about this (impossible) and apologises.

Gross.

For what it’s worth, I completely agree with you.

However, a lot of people will point to that fact that they are largely seen at the main opposition party for the next general election, despite having very few MPs.

I think football clubs about be a bit like the Beeb, impartial and offering fair coverage to all parties.

Phil has clarified in the other thread that it wasn't the club 'hosting' them, more that Reform booked the facilities, which leaves the club in an awkward position. Accept the booking and they piss off some support, or cancel it and be sure that Reform will be all over the media about cancel culture etc.

I thought it was a wind up when I saw Mullet’s post. Fair enough if the club was to invite the local MP, but there’s no reason to host that toxic arsehole. Who’s next? Paul Golding, Nick Griffin? We could have a ‘guess the celebrity in the KKK outfit’ competition at half time. What laughs.

Edit- slightly less odious if it wasn’t the club hosting. We’ll still need to disinfect though!

That’s fair enough. But I’m still not happy at all about a football club hosting any political party for any purpose.

Edit: and that includes the local MP. If he wants to buy a ticket as a private individual like anyone else fine.

Hmm, so that’s a choice they had, and they made the pro-Reform choice.

I think it's perfectly acceptable for an organisation like a football club, with a fan base to consider, to say no on the grounds of having a policy not to host political meetings/events. Whilst I consider Reform to represent the absolute lowest of human morals and decency. I equally would accept others to have the same view on having Labour or the conservatives onsite.

Gutted about it. Don't feel like going again this season i detest Farage that much. Appreciate that's on me.i don't want racist/fascists anywhere near our club. Anyone who doesn't think that's what he is are completely kidding themselves. He has a rotten history if people care to look.

ITFC is not a media organisation.

They have fewer elected MPs than the Greens: they are not the opposition.

Although tbf the BBC has given Farage free publicity for decades, so that’s a fair enough analogy.

Completely agree. And by the way I wouldn't have a problem with any one individual buying a ticket and attending a match. That is everyone's right and politics shouldn't come into football.

But yes it's different taking a political parties money.

Totally agree. The club shouldn't accept political party bookings at all.

I'm pretty sure when I was working there, they had conference bookings for all sorts of political/local government/religious clients, etc.

I think if they treat themselves strictly as a meeting venue on non-matchdays, and the client booking the facilities is not breaking the law, they can't really say no, without facing repercussions as being intolerant - both on a legal sense, and a societal sense. This is the country we created. Freedom of speech, live and let live, etc. Doesn't mean we have to like it, though.

Club are between a rock and a hard place here. If a political party, of whatever leaning, books the venue and the club says "we don't want you here" then ITFC becomes a political football. Unpalatable as it is, it's probably easier to take the booking rather than have thousands of reform fans sending hate mail etc

Disagree on you regarding this.

Reform booked it and probably were quite open about who they were. They may well appeal to the baseline of society but they are not an illegal organisation and it’s not down to the club to deem legal entities to be unwelcome.

Plus imagine the free PR for those idiots if the club cancelled their booking - you’ll have pricks protesting dressed as St George waving Sports Direct England flags outside the ground.

Probably best to simply take the booking and hope they tidy up after themselves.

Dunno club just say they didn’t want to run the risk of an incident, vandalism, threats etc by hosting fascists.

For me it’s a slap in the face to all decent supporters, our players, staff and history as a fairly multicultural club.

I wonder what the coffee thing for vets thinks of us hosting the fash? Let alone the fact we have rainbow laces, Remembrance Day etc as integral parts of the calendar here.

Yes right now I don't feel like going, corect. The rest of what you have written is nonsense. As I said they should apply the same criteria to all parties and not have them using a football clubs facilities for political events. For the very reason of not dividing the fan base as has happened here causing extreme embarrassment. Norwich fans are all over this by the way a d plenty of other clubs fans. It's a really poor bit of PR for the club and that matters.

Your statement of democracy not being for me or not being a supporter is moronic and baseless.

"Dunno club just say they didn’t want to run the risk of an incident, vandalism, threats etc by hosting fascists"

Yeah like they are going to come out and say that....

Its weird, all I think is Reform hired a room at the ground for a meeting (clearly not the main one which is this evening) and did what Reform do by making a bit of a song and dance about it on X.

And then as per, it seems that everyone loses their minds.

Rooms are hired out daily, Norwich do the same as Ive had the misfortune of being there loads of times.

Is it really that deep ?

(And no, I dont support Reform, or like Farage)
