Are we going to be looking for ANOTHER new keeper in the summer? 07:36 - May 19 with 4532 viewstractorboy1978

After a seemingly impressive start, Palmer looks less and less like a keeper that suits us IMO. If we want to dominate the ball and play out next season, we need someone better with their feet. And he’s been beaten too easily for me several times in the last few weeks.

If we can bring in 2 top central midfielders, plus replacements for anyone who leaves, especially Axel or Leif, and still have budget? Maybe.

It is such a low priority when we have 3 keepers who can do a job in the Championship though.

Muric will end up in Turkey, I reckon.

Wouldn't surprise me. Can't see him playing for us again.

Last time Muric played in the Championship he was named in the PFA team of the year.

Don't expect him (or the £8m invested in him) to be written off.

Palmer was also outstanding at that level this season.

Palmer was so 'outstanding' in the Championship that his promotion-chasing side decided to sell. Mmm....

This with bells and whistles on it. It should be 3rd on the list after 2 centre mids.

As I posted the other day, Carl Rushworth is available and I bet McKenna will want us at the front of that queue.

Rushworth not that good either.
No way I see Muric been here next season.
Think in the championship Palmer and Walton fine worry about it if we do get prom other places more important to upgrade.

Is Slicker strong enough to be a number 2 in the Championship? I think we stick with Palmer, I can see Muric (loan) and Walton (sold) going and having Slicker number 2 and one of the young guys as number 3

I would stick with what we have - all are plenty good enough for the Champ. There are other more critical areas to strengthen first, then if, if, if we should be fortunate enough to get promoted again we can look at signing a higher quality keeper.

But then, look at the Saints - they sign one of the top keepers in the country and are still absolutely pants as a team!

His time here is up... on and off the pitch.

We have 4 good keepers, although 1 completely unproven, he's in Scotlands squad so can't be that bad.

We've never had this many good keepers at once.

Palmer has been one of the best, if not the best, keeper in the championship for a few years too.

Others areas to worry about more!

A new goalkeeper is the least of our worries

One of the main reasons we’ve been left exposed and panicked the keeper is the lack of legs in midfield and how the opposition ripped the through us week after week leading to panic and mistakes

See the Vardy goal Saturday …….amongst many others

Key this summer for me is midfield 100%. Athleticism , Strength , Physicality and Pace

Which is what I've been saying all season, but the mood music has always been it's the keepers fault. Not let's work out how we keep the ball away from our goalkeepers end of the pitch.

Agree we have bigger priority areas (namely CM and ST) but can't underestimate the importance of having a keeper that can play as McKenna needs them to. Hladky had his faults but was probably the difference between automatic promotion and the play offs last season as he gave us an added dimension with his feet.

Re Palmer, it's also slipped under the radar his goals conceded vs xG is worse than Muric. He has -2.9 vs Muric -1.6. Walton -1.0 for reference. The truth is, none of the three keepers have been particularly great this season.

He's not even second choice currently. I'd be amazed if he's anywhere near the first team next season, if he's still here.

It wouldn't surprise me if Slicker is ahead of him in the pecking order now.

He's injured currently anyway so the second choice bit is not necessarily true.

I still firmly believe Muric is the best of the three keepers we have and last time he was in the champ he was levels above. I'd probably reset and go again with him.

I think we need to be recruiting with 26/27 in mind if the opportunity presents itself.

Part of the issue this season was the number of changes made to the squad, which ripped up a significant amount of the cohesion build up over the course of the previous two seasons.

I can't see Palmer remaining as No 1 should we get promoted again so, in an ideal world, we should be signing a GK this summer who'll have a season to get fully into gear with his defence, whilst being of a sufficient quality that he'll be the starting No 1 in 26/27 should we get promoted.

You ain't a beauty but, hey, you're alright.

I agree with regard to recruiting with a view to 26/7 being ideal but it’s also ambitious there’s a pretty long list of outfield players that could do with replacing. Off the top of my head you could make the argument that the same applies to these players.

I don't think it's something we need to visit this summer. We have at least 3 keepers in the building that are sufficient for the Championship.

If we manage to get promoted again, it will definitely have to be looked at then though.

"We have at least 3 keepers in the building that are sufficient for the Championship."

This is the thing. All 3 are good enough for the Championship, but aside from the one who's taken the heaviest criticism, the other two aren't comfortable/good enough for how we build from the back.

It's either you go with Muric or you go into the market for a new number one. Walton moves on either way.

I completely agree. All would be perfectly fine in the Championship, but only Muric has the potential for the Premiership. And a year in the Championship offers an opportunity to sort out the mental side of his game.

I suspect Phil is right (he's much closer to the club) - there is probably no way back for him, and he'll be off over the summer. Too many turned against him. I fear this will lead to us losing a (future) top keeper, and see someone else benefit from him in a couple of years time.

He definitely had his flaws but in terms of his feet and beating the press, he was a vital cog in the system that got us promoted.

For me Rushworth or someone as good with the ball at their feet is going to be important to draw in the press and hit teams on the turn. I just cannot see Palmer being comfortable with doing that.

Agree. I get the impression he has been well and truly frozen out and certainly no way back for him while McK is still in charge at least. He'll be first out of the door of the 4 we have currently. I think Palmer will remain No 1 for next season. He's a proven championship keeper.

Palmers record hadn't slipped under my radar! I think he's been very fortunate that he came in for Muric and had a few good games. But the team as a whole and certainly results have been worse while he;s been in goal - as your stats prove. I still maintain that Muric wasn't as bad as people would have us believe. Blimey - people should have watched Bruce Grobbelar in Liverpool's glory years!
