If I made a "joke" like that in a work context, I'd also be looking at disciplinary action.

I have quite a fondness for dated stuff from the 70s and 80s and am not a fan of revising things in line with whatever the current worldview is, but to me the 60s was sexual liberation and the 70s was a lot of older men taking advantage of that. The amount of "yewtree" stuff going on was appalling.

Operation Yewtree was a British police investigation into sexual abuse allegations, predominantly the abuse of children…

I know. I'm referring to those who were caught by that operation Savile, Glitter, Harris etc all being prominent in the 70s thinking it was anything goes.

I don't know any female refs, although my son is a ref so that may change.

I think you have to be a pretty strong minded person to ref, so they probably don't need you to be offended on their behalf.

I've not said I'm offended so that's a rather weird response. Not sure being strong minded means you have to be tolerant of people being bellends though.

Ive already got two lines and only need a couple more for a full house.

Didn't say you have to be tolerant of bellends, just being strong minded enough so you don't need the permanently offended to be offended on your behalf.

Oh and when I answer your posts, I'm not always talking directly to you, I'm usually generalising. So its really not that weird

How do you think female refs, who already have a hard enough time in a male dominated sport that isn't always the most progressive in its attitudes, might feel about the 'joke'?

I'll ask my daughter - who is a ref what she thinks of it.

My guess is that she won't get it as she's never watched comedy from the era when that stereotype was formed.

It's 106 miles to Portman Road, we've got a full tank of gas, half a round of Port Salut, it's dark... and we're wearing blue tinted sunglasses.

But this is a professional issue.

He is a football manager who will have very strict rules to follow and he clearly has not followed them. I could not make this joke in my workplace, the overwhelming majority of people could not and would not make that joke in their workplace. And if I/they did, action would swiftly follow.

If Kieran Mckenna made that joke, he would be disciplined. Just because this bloke has made himself some edgy figure of fun doesn't mean he is above the rules. He went on camera and did something which is obviously against the rules. It is against the rules because there are plenty of women who don't find this stuff funny. I'm sure as you say some don't care, but lots will so it makes sense for this sort of 'banter' to not be allowed in a professional setting.

What is the issue here, this is not controversial.

It’s a general reference for a certain group on here, not just this ‘joke’.

Perhaps I should’ve said woke brigade

Odd to label a thread "not allowed to joke anymore" when there are literally millions if not billions of jokes being made around the world every single day without anyone batting an eyelid. What is it about people going off regressive sexist 'bantz' that triggers some folks? Very odd. The take home from this episode should be that the guy is a massive berk, any other interpretation is frankly a bit weird.

Something missing in the OP is that Marc and Dorking have a lot of recent history when it comes to the FA. Just prior to the season ending, their match footage provided controversial tweets regarding officiating in a game, and he's also been quite vocal about other matters across the past few seasons. He's a very marmite type character who has a lot of positive followers in lower league football but likewise a fair number who don't. And I don't believe personally the 6 game ban is based solely around this one comment.

It's acually a fact that men generally have more difficulty seeing things right in front of them than women do, but we are also better at seeing things at distance. It's evolutionary and stems from hunter/gatherer times, when the men would be the hunters and would need to see prey at a distance. So it's actually not offensive or belittling to teach it - it's scientific fact.

As an aside, I believe the men-hunters/women-gatherers theory is now considered incorrect, an example of the gender stratification of the time it was posited being transposed on history.
