Farage is a traitor 18:42 - Sep 3 with 2238 viewsMullet

This thread on him being completely ripped apart in America is a fascinating listen/read.

What’s equally important is Keir growing some balls and nailing him here

We used to hang, draw and quarter the likes of Nige.

Didn't realise Glinner had moved stateside.

I'll need to stop referring to him as Britain's most divorced man.

Oh, he'll be welcomed with open arms, they love Father Ted over there.....

At the risk of sounding like Mark Ashton, deploying 5 armed officers to arrest this guy is giving Farage et al the oxygen they crave.I think front line police have a difficult enough job as it is, without their senior leadership making p*ss poor operational decisions like this. No wonder Starmer and Streeting told them to better prioritise.

Well, he's not the most reliable witness of even his own life but equally, isn't this "police in airports who are armed because they are police in an airport" rather than a specific flying squad scrambled to intercept a bewildered ex comedy writer?

Can we have Jamie Raskin over for a state visit rather than the orange man-baby? I’ve no clue on American politics and what Raskin stands for but the way he spoke to Farage is exactly what we need our politicians to be doing over here. Repeatedly call out his lies, his hypocrisy, his dog whistling scumbaggery in every public forum possible

FWIW, I do think that one was worthy of a police visit at the very least, it's a pretty unpleasant thing to suggest.

I’d argue it’s different in the context of comedy when there’s no intent. Her typical audience would know it’s a joke and not a literal suggestion. But it’s certainly a grey area. I’m quite surprised the BBC didn’t cave in there.

it is a big story - for a large portion of the public it reinforces the sense that the police and the state are increasingly out of touch. you need to listen to people outside your bubble. attacking linehan rather than supporting free speech really isn't a good place to end up.

But Palestine Action protesters are terrorist sympathisers, right?

Nonsense. Outside of a small echo chamber, no one will have noticed or care about Graham Linehan. Regardless of the right or wrong of the arrest.

You can guarantee that it will get masses of oxygen though!

From my limited experience with some of his team, he/they came across as people who feel they’d been treated unjustly. Earlier in his career, Farage was ridiculed and excluded by many established and traditional politicians. I’m convinced he just wants revenge and to ‘stick it up ‘em’. That’s my personal theory, but I could be wrong. It could just be the lust for power and money.

Kind of like getting rejected by Art School?

It might have been a case of a couple to arrest him and some more on hand to look after potential wider public order - he is quite a well known, and to some, a divisive public figure.I don't know.

i have no time for farage. both starmer and raskin are entirely right. but what most people will take away from the last day is that 5 armed police officers have arrested a comedy writer. if you refuse to focus on what really disturbs the public you leave room for idiots like farage

Not most people - you

I'd say we're still a split nation even years after Brexit. Half the country will not care a jot, half the country will look at this as terrible for freedom of speech. You only have to look at the graphic i posted to see which papers know their readership will be interested, and which will ignore it altogether.

On another note, what on earth were they thinking arresting someone so publicly who has literally moved to America over freedom of speech concerns in the UK? A spectacular own goal from the Met there.

All police at major airports are armed as a matter of course I believe. They weren’t armed to arrest him. Small point, but does put a slightly different slant on the story.

Same vid, different angle, this needs to get as much airplay in the UK as possible:

We need to all mobilise to stop Farage, it will be our darkest day if he and Reform ever get any real power.

Brexit brought the mass immigration that is now being used by Farage to try and win power, it is ridiculous

I do wonder if he’s on borrowed time as an MP. He doesn’t go to his constituency, he doesn’t turn up to Westminster (missing 60% of votes I believe).

It’s a poorly paid inconvenience to him
