I have no ill will towards either Cook or Chambers. It was clear Chambers' time was up and the way Cook handled that certainly sounds questionable. However, we move on. But I am glad that we'll seemingly no longer bob along accepting mediocrity. That's the best thing to come out of all this, imo. Would never have happened under Evans!

The writing was on every wall when the squad overhaul was on the horizon. No need for the silly reactions on either side. |

True dat. Just seems like a massive non-issue and a few people have seen the floodgates open for a row to me. Burn this thread Phil.

Chambo has spoken on 16:39 - Dec 5 by Darth_Koont | I don’t know about anybody else but the “nobody” rankled. Forget the emotion, the booze or whatever, it felt a very cheap shot. Still does even if Joe has explained it a bit better today. |
I think Joe was wrong to call him a nobody - In terms of his management of Ipswich his performance ranks close to Hurst and Lambert as one of the worst in our history. There are probably better words than nobody to describe that level of failure, particularly with the resources given to him.

Chambo has spoken on 16:35 - Dec 5 by Herbivore | Players being released isn't an issue, but you can handle it with class or you can call yourself "demolition man". These are the choices we all have to make I guess. I do find it odd that some are so upset about a Chambers having a little dig back given the circumstances. Can't really blame him. |
I do agree that Cook’s self-styled ‘demolition man’ persona is something he should reflect on, and may regret when he looks back. The other side of that coin is that he and the fans were being badly let down on the pitch by players including Chambo, Bishop etc. Personally (and I don’t think I’m alone), the whole ‘demolition man’ mantra was close to what I as a fan wanted to hear. It’s part of why Cook brought supporters onside. This thread is starting to conflate several unrelated issues. The ‘nobody’ comment which has everyone particularly riled up to me is less about the supposed disrespect and more about the underlying bias of the poster presenting as objective, clearly visible in this forum over a period of time. I should add, I don’t know the poster, but don’t doubt the consensus on the board that he is a good guy. None of this is / should be personal.

Several of you need to look in the mirror. |
You’d think I’d actually said something that is properly out of order and abusive, or that Chambers had

I can only assume that a number of posters bought into #cookball so heavily that they are looking for something to kick out at. You aligned yourself with Chambo (legend) he was aligned with Mick......you know how it works. I'm sure a few no mark blow hards on an internet messageboard won't concern you anyway! I have been shoved out of a job I loved too along with a load of colleagues. When the company got into problems because of it, me and my former colleagues enjoyed many a beer, dinners and much laughter over it. But it was private laughter, because several of them were still working in that industry and word gets around. For a moments gratification, why offer even the vaguest possibility of compromising possible future employment? If the way he was moved on was done badly, people in the business will already be aware of it. Just seems pointless and daft to me.

let's keep the legend status to those that deserve it! chambers was a hard-working servant to the club and i wish him well, but he wasn't good enough to be a legend in the positive sense. his main contribution to our history was being the only captain to relegate us to division 3... legends are bobby, alf, muhren, wark, mariner et al not the likes of chambers, quaner or skuse

If you assume you make an ass out of yourself. I have no problem with Chambers (even though the idea that his career was ended by a manager rather than time itself is a bit foolish) and I thought Mick was sadly underrated. Joe should just edit and move on.

In a way I think he’ll be glad to be out of here as the hob wasn’t what he signed up for |

Chambo has spoken on 16:49 - Dec 5 by monytowbray | I’m catching up but I don’t disagree with the statement in context to ITFC. Chambers is a bigger part of our folklore than Cook, and more likely to have a memorial design at PR than Cook in the future. In regards to wider football the statement doesn’t work, but as someone who’s been victim many a time to “NO THAT’S NOT WHAT YOU MEANT I DECIDE WHAT YOU MEANT AND I’M DOUBLING DOWN TO KEEP THE PILE ON GOING” threads, this screams of it. I mean, in a way mildly amusing as Joe was a front runner of vegan threads and doing it my way back in the day, but also Joe in general is a decent poster and any past (seitan mock) beef is water under the bridge. But also I see a few others who never have an issue doing it to other posters taking the moral high ground. TWTD, I rarely come on here now and I don’t miss it much. I expect I’m not missed much either. It’s like screaming into the abyss these days. I’d rather smoke a J and chat face to face about issues with those open minded to listening, keyboards and egos make the internet in general a hellish affair. But back to the OP, I’ll always have more time for Chambers than Cook. Did people forget this last minute goal against scum, his role in the MM side that was our only season of note in the last 15 years and the atmosphere the fist pump brought? It was a relationship too many like to focus on the latter of and forget the good times. We’ve all let Alan Lee off for going to scum, folks need to get over it. He was right, Cook f**ked it. |
Yep, agree with quite a lot of this.

People judging Chambers by one post as opposed to the level of integrity he carried himself with over the course of 10 years is classic. Some posters also love looking for an excuse to make a dig at Joe, despite him being a very well balanced poster who I've never seen speak to people with anything other than respect. EDIT - "make a dig". Thanks wkj [Post edited 5 Dec 2021 18:22]

Chambo has spoken on 14:08 - Dec 5 by itfcjoe | There’s a difference between calling a comment out as some have, and being personally abusive - they are the ones who need to look at themselves I shouldn’t have to report 4 or 5 posts for abuse Paul Cook is now a nobody at Ipswich Town, his time here will be barely a footnote on the clubs history - he treated good people badly, and if you aren’t going to get results it will be held against him |
Shame Luke chambers isn’t a nobody at ITFC. Unfortunately he was a somebody who was an ever present in Ipswich’s worst spell in its entire history. Absolute disgrace a man of his limited ability has gotten into our top ten appearances. But hey ho, he took in some youth players. Paul Cook may have turned it in time we’ll never know. What we do know is Luke Chambers wasn’t very good.

Loyalty to friends is a wonderful character trait, but doesn't enable you to objectively assess those friends' & their employers' professional careers - possibly quite the opposite.
