Yep, re the last point - and I think it is the cumulative effect of the decisions rather than each of them individually - they can all be justified on their own merits
Just comes down to having a bit of respect - whether or not it worked out for them or they were any good, for people who have put a considerable amount of time into the club, and the job for several years.
Very good point and they were probably the only two that we could have built around.
I wonder whether the balancing of finances meant we had to sell some players to be able to wheel and deal as such, and these two were the only ones worth enough to be able to make the signings we did.
Think there was a post a little while back, saying the transfer fees in and out were similar - certainly would have been a big spend, without the sale of Downes or Dozzell.
One wanted out the season before last, the other had a release clause in his contract. Both wanted to play at a higher level, both have had injury issues. How on earth could anyone built a team around them? It was way too late for that. Their funding players coming in (FFP) was the right thing to do at the time for all parties.
As for Chambers, the view of Col U fans a few weeks back was that he was too old and slow. Well he might have sped up a bit with the excitement of L1 but the reality is that the only way he should have stayed is as cover and an apprentice coach. He’s done as a player. If he flapped his mouth in public or to people who relayed it on to Cook, I can understand why he got Chambers out. I certainly would have done.
If Wilson is a decent sort of character, I’d have kept him though.

You’ve had about 30 players calling you out for your ‘nobody’ comment.
I’m not sure it can be all of them/us wrong. I’m actually surprised you’ve double down tbh.
There’s a difference between calling a comment out as some have, and being personally abusive - they are the ones who need to look at themselves
I shouldn’t have to report 4 or 5 posts for abuse
Paul Cook is now a nobody at Ipswich Town, his time here will be barely a footnote on the clubs history - he treated good people badly, and if you aren’t going to get results it will be held against him

Yes, agree they both didn't want to be here.
What I was trying to say, was that it was beneficial for us to get the funds in to make the purchases that we did. And that these two were the only ones, that were worthy of staying.
I see a lot of posts, about we should have kept x or y - however we needed to shift the losing mentality within the squad.
IMO - and I know not a popular one, but Chambers best position whilst at Ipswich was Right Back - but that was never going to happen with the system Cook wanted to play.

Yes, but it’s only one side of the story regarding Cook treating ex-players badly. He hasn’t got a platform on here to say why he did - if he did. I do tend to believe you that it was brutal, but usually there’s context why people react in a certain way. And I tend to believe Cook isn’t a complete knobhead. That kind of behaviour will follow you if behaved like that all the time. Could be another side to the story whereby there was a bit of back-stabbing going on or lack of respect shown to him. Don’t know, just guessing because only one side has been presented, but those players needed to move on and your earlier comment about him ripping the heart out of the club is an over-reaction because this club was slowly imploding and needed a jolt.
Whatever, what’s done is done and hopefully the right decision, but a lot of us aren’t glorying in him getting sacked.

It’s the same with anything really - get results and nothing else matters. These conversations are being rehashed because we are doing poorly
I’d imagine some are feeling anger now at how they were treated by someone who didn’t achieve anything here - all we can hope is a new man comes in and gets us going and then we look forwards and not backwards

I totally agree with your first three paragraphs, but sort of half disagree with the last.
Yes, full back was Chambers’ best position at Ipswich, but that was largely due to there being two better centre halves than him at the club. He was a natural centre half as far as I was concerned and often looked vulnerable against pace at full back. I just think time was up for him.

Even if he had have stayed on, he wouldn’t have started week in and week out and would have surely been phased out - but then that was probably the case for the 2 seasons prior but he clung on in there

The “nobody” stuff is just silly and unnecessary, Joe.

Does it need 30 odd posters to call, him out though? That's a classic pile on.
Joe said something that people considered out of order. After one or two people pointed this out did it really need every man and his dog joining in to repeat the same thing?
I was also logged out when joining this thread first thing this morning so had the misfortune to see seablu bringing Joe's wife into the thread. Is this where we are on TWTD. That people who have different views on football players and managers get personal bout other posters family?
How this bloke is still allowed to post on here amazes me. He's an unpleasant and abusive troll.
Maybe the players wanted to go because Cook came in like a wrecking ball and fûckèd everyone off? So much so that towards the last few weeks of last season he was having to try and hand out olive branches to those he had decided he wanted to keep.
He got it so wrong here, from start to finish - only positive is because he did so badly after being appointed Evans actually pulled the trigger on the deal when has Cook made an immediate impact he may have kept hold of the club!
But young boys who gave their life’s to Ipswich were treated shabbily - Bishop been here 17 years, Lankester similar to that basically told to FO in 30 second conversations
He got it wrong, but his only positive was clearing out so much of the deadwood that had already been relegated and then had 2 mid table L1 finishes - get them out, very average crop of players.
We have individually a good squad now, hoping for the next manager to turn them into a very good team.

The squad is now very good, let’s all hope the next man can get a lot more out of it

Interesting Glasgow.
I remember you saying I should stop now as clearly by number of down arrows i was wrong.

I only really mean in it in the way that Hurst is now a nobody here, just came in did their best and it wasn’t good enough so moved on relatively quickly
I’ve spoken to Cook a couple of times, and for all that’s said he was a really good guy - loves football and very passionate. In a way I think he’ll be glad to be out of here as the hob wasn’t what he signed up for

That’s better with the second half of the statement.
I still think you’re doubling/tripling down on the “nobody” part that seems unnecessarily cheap and you’re giving it a specific meaning that I don’t think anyone really gets.
You could of course just edit and add your explanation at the very least.

To be fair Joe, some of the posts reported for 'abuse' have no abuse in them what-so-ever. You went down the wrong road and revealed your true colours on Cook, a point of view, that over the last 9 months you have been at pains to call out posters that accused you of that very same bias.
Chambo, Lankester and Bish will only be footnotes on the clubs history too, and all of those binned off last year, treated every single supporter at this club badly. If this years players aren't performing to their abilities, then neither did any of the preceding lot.
I get that you were/are mates with Chambo and co, but for me that will always make you the most un-subjective poster on the board at times, and particularly around Cook and the former players.
Which is a shame as you can be a very insightful, nuanced poster.

As if you reported my post as 'abuse'. Your behaviour has been off the scale.
