Then maybe Cook shouldn't have led him to believe he was being offered a new deal more or less up until he released him?

I think any manager who gleefully tells the press they are going to be "demolition man" and then goes about speaking to the players the way he's reported to have done isn't doing himself too many favours. A lot loved it at the time, clearly many still love it now. For others it doesn't really sit right. I can't really blame Chambers for having a tame nibble back to be honest, it's hardly the egregious act some are making it out to be.

Crikey man, you do realise that Cook is allowed to change his mind? If something changed in between him telling Chambo he could stay and him then deciding to release him then so be it...

I loved Chambo! I was sad to see him go, that being said, he was part of the steady decline of our once great club over the last 10 years or so... IF Chambo had too much influence or sway at the club and Cook, or the new owners wanted to go down a different route that could be a reason he was released..

That's fine, but it's also fine for Chambers to not be very happy about it and to have a little bite back at Cook now, imo.

I agree, but IF Chambo ever has ambitions of coming back to the club in a coaching or managerial capacity in the future then I'd suggest it was ill advised to air that in public.. I have no issue with the quip, just to be clear, just not that bright imo

Probably ill judged, which is why he deleted it fairly promptly, but I doubt anyone will remember this in a few months' time and I can't imagine him having a minor dig against one of our poorest ever managers (and there's some competition there) will really go against him too much.

It's pretty incredible that those who backed Cook to the hilt are still so intent on backing him, even rewriting history to do so. He will go down as one of our worst managers in history and hopefully all being well he'll barely be discussed once we get back up to the Championship. I don't understand why some are still so emotionally invested in him.

Some of those supporting Cook, Herbie - some!

I’m not intent on defending him. Check my record and you’ll see that last May I was vocal in my dislike for the way the dismantling of the old squad was handled. I’ve always maintained this and do so to this day.

That said, I had hoped he’d be a success with the strong new squad he assembled, and defended him until this last week when it exams apparent the team just wasn’t making the progress it should be and he started to lose it and blame the pitch, the supporters ....! By 4.45pm on Saturday I was happy to see him go.

I think you've always been very fair and balanced with regards to Cook, Vic. No issue at all with any of the stances you've taken.

Does it need 30 odd posters to call, him out though? That's a classic pile on.

Joe said something that people considered out of order. After one or two people pointed this out did it really need every man and his dog joining in to repeat the same thing?

I was also logged out when joining this thread first thing this morning so had the misfortune to see seablu bringing Joe's wife into the thread. Is this where we are on TWTD. That people who have different views on football players and managers get personal bout other posters family?

How this bloke is still allowed to post on here amazes me. He's an unpleasant and abusive troll.

Seems very odd, so many people gleefully baying for a pile on because somebody called somebody a nobody. Hardly the crime of the century.

I can’t say I agree with the statement tbh, Cook had a career that saw him play in the premier league and has a demonstrable managerial CV, it just hasn’t worked out here. On a human level I really feel for the bloke, he’s had a rough few months and clearly is someone with a lot of professional pride. I don’t agree with every decision or how he’s gone about every decision, but I don’t doubt he’s done what he thought best for the good of the club. Chambers just looks like a real d1ck with that message to be honest, and as you’re sat 18th in League 2 it’s hard to make a case that he’s one that got away or that it wasn’t the right decision to move him on. I dare say Cook hasn’t regretted the decision for a second, nor should he have. Chambers just comes across as salty and unprofessional, it’s not a good look.

It's been a horrible year for Cook. What with losing his father. But I doubt Cook will be out of work long.

I wouldn't be surprised if he isn't offered a job next month during the window. Maybe even in the Championship. It simply didn't work out for him here.

As I said when Chambers post was first linked, highly predictable. But it was unwise and made him look petty.

I just couldn't understand the vitriol aimed at Joe for a throw away comment. Sad state of affairs when someone's family is mocked because of a disagreement over a football manager.

let's keep the legend status to those that deserve it!

chambers was a hard-working servant to the club and i wish him well, but he wasn't good enough to be a legend in the positive sense. his main contribution to our history was being the only captain to relegate us to division 3...

legends are bobby, alf, muhren, wark, mariner et al not the likes of chambers, quaner or skuse

Legend???

You are right, the bloke wouldn't get into any top ITFC centre backs listing, let alone all defenders.

Beattie, Butcher, Osman, Hunter, Mowbray, Venus, Hermann, Baxter, McNeil, Bramble, even McGreal or Jefferson were all in a completely different class

Vitriol was uncalled for and not in the spirit of this place.

My point, and that of others is that in that one ‘nobody’ comment he showed his dislike for Cook, something which he’d denied all along. It was like his mask slipped a bit, which was sad.

Joe is a good poster and has more sense and understanding of what’s happening at the club than most of us. I personally meant him no harm - but sometimes even the best need to be called out when they are caught out! I hope that like Cook he can rebuilt his considerable reputation as a pundit and poster who can be trusted to be objective.

Doesn't need to be called out by everyone.

There's a tone in amongst some of the posts which suggested one or two couldn't wait.

Joe's had a lot of personal stuff thrown at him on here this year and he's handled it remarkably well overall. It's not necessary.

It wasn't a throw-away comment though, it was the climax of months of anti-Cook posts. His agenda was clear once his mate had been deemed surplus to requirements. It was personal.

I’d respectfully disagree. Since the Chambers episode he’s been a different poster on here and not lost an opportunity to have a snipe at Cook. I didn’t agree with the tone of some of the posts, but don’t think he can get away with his comments just because he used to be such a decent, balanced poster. I hope now that we’ll see the old Joe back.

I was getting stick for being anti-Cook before Chambers was even released because he did such a rubbish job last year and I didn't think the chuck all the players under the bus approach was the right one.

I'm sure someone can go back and get the'receipts' rather than follow the narrative that I'm anti Cook because he released Chamber s- i Was much more annoyed re the academy players, and still am.

It's hardly the crime of the century or particularly abusive - or deserving of what followed by people who have been desperate to have a go at me for months because I thought Cook was not doing a good job.

He's a nobody in the history of Ipswich Town now, he's a very good football manager with a very good record, who no doubt will go on and have success elsewhere but was a bad fit here
