He was well paid while he was here and was part of the poorest team we’ve had for more than 65 years.

The manner of his leaving may not have been well handled, but he and the others needed to go.

He should be concentrating on trying to play for a Div 4 team a bit harder

Poorest team in 65 years?, funny I thought Chambers was playing for Colchester this season.
The way he was let go, no problem being a little smug. For all the haters Chambo still loved this club,Cookie was a Liverpool fan.

You were always such a well respected poster on here but you’ve really embarrassed yourself with that post.

And to clarify, there’s only one person responsible for ending Chambers ITFC career.

Quite. This is why I've stopped listening the the BM Pod because I just couldn't stand the agenda setting drivel Joe was constantly spouting about Cook on the back of his mate not getting a contract.

He probably should've been handled better, but let's not pretend that he was actually any good and captain of the side during the worse time in its history.

In fairness, his Ipswich career consisted of a couple of decent seasons under MM.
He subsequently hung around like a cloying bout of wind, lauded by the uninitiated as some sort of club linchpin.
The fact his name sits on the Player of the Season list alongside some absolute legends continues to irk me greatly.
Still, you and your missus fed him some pasta and a spotted dick and declared him a top bloke, so enjoy your moment in the sun and be sure to text him our undying gratitude for his contribution to nothing whatsoever.

Yeah some real legends like Bullard and Wilson.

Chambers was decent here for most of his time - being moved out to right back hardly helped him, both in the Championship and in League One. Would have probably been better if he'd been one of those who left with Mick.

…. than lauding a player who was like a punch bag for championship wingers for two seasons (not actually his fault for being played at right back) and who subsequently captained 3 seasons of complete and utter failure… and who (alongside Ward) defined ‘how not to be senior leader’ for a season

It’s as irksome as making out that Chaplows late winner at Watford was some highlight in the Ipswich Town pantheon… or believing we had a hope in hell in our last play-off appearance

Progressive manager??? NOW! If not Cook, THEN who? We can’t keep feckin it up

A nobody, who won league titles with Chesterfield, Portsmouth and Wigan you mean? He's gone! We know you're mates with Chambo, fair enough.. buy you can hardly call Cook a nobody, just coz he binned your mate off..

After originally saying he would stay, he is allowed to change his mind.. I loved Chambo! But he was part of the steady decline of the club.. there's no disputing that..

You could argue Hurst was a nobody, but not Cook, with his track record.. he has been successful wherever he has been..

… since Joe FECKIN Royle!

Ah Joe come on you are better than this! Hope this is just the beers talking.

Chambers was a great servant for us in good times and bad. Let's be honest his legs were gone, not helped by being played at RB...

Agree that Chambers should have had more dignified departure but you know that this is a cruel game.

Calling Cook a nobody is utter crap, as in reflection I'm sure you'd agree.

I guess if Joe wants to pursue this route (I hope he doesn't) then Cook was a nobody in historic terms for Ipswich - came in, managed for nine months (babies which were concieved around the time he took over are now being born), left us lower in the table then when he arrived, and departed pretty suddenly and surprisingly.

Obviously in wider footballing terms Cook has a lot of credit in the bank. Would be intresting to hear, on reflection, whether he knows where he went wrong here and what he would have done differently given the chance.

The problem was where *Evans* went wrong - ie not looking at PC's record & then insisting that if Cook took the job, he *must* bring L. Richardson with him. No Richardson, no job.

I think Cook believed for a long time Richardson would join him in the summer. When he didn’t, it wrong-footed him and he never really recovered.

Agree with that. Whether you liked Chambers or not, and regardless of how he was “treated” it’s pathetic that he’s on social media posting something so petty months after the event. He’s had his say before and it makes him seem incapable of moving on.

Luke Chambers......an utter fraud and the worst ever captain in the history of ITFC !

2018....he and his mates implored Evans to sack Hurst over having been treated badly. Fair enough, new manager, new habits and they didn't like his habits. That doesn't excuse him though from making 'mistakes' he did against Middlesbrough. A miserable 0-2 defeat on the Tuesday night. His set up for the Middlesboughs second goal. Was it really a mistake? Or just a sabotage to accelerate Hursts departure?

So eventually he and others got their wish and Hurst got sacked. Lambert arrived with a full of optimism and belief that he would us. But the Captain Fantastic and the rest weren't interested in putting an effort. Of course it's the manager who picks up the team and tactics but the players have their responsibilites too. And there was no fight or effort. By the end of that season they got clapped and cheered for the spineless relegation you don't know whether to laugh or cry

That was followed by the euphoria after Chambers got a new 2 years deal.......Beyond apprehension !

Two bleak seasons in League One would follow. Lambert got sacked and we got Cook. The Captain Fantastic and the rest got sulking after Cook told them to work harder on the training pitch. Poor souls ! Nice and the pressure free easy payday at Ipswich disrupted by the new manager, eh? Because he asks them to put an effort. Cook must have been a devil for them.

Hurst, Lambert and Cook......three so bad managers for the poor Luke. Perhaps they should have appreciated what the fantastic skipper they would have in him shouldn't they?

Three managers were bad for poor Luke........They probably didn't realise they should have pandered to him shouldn't they?

James Norwood......I would have expected some jeers from him over Cooks departure given his alleged 'differences' with Cook. But he has shown some class unlike the Captain Fantastic.

An utter fraud. How many fist pumps has he made towards the Colchester crowd this season?

‘Nobody’. In one word there you’ve confirmed a lot. I get it. You always had it in for Cook because of knowing Chambers in the real world. I just wonder why you had to pretend to be impartial when it was pretty obvious you didn’t like him, no matter how much you suggested otherwise.

I was getting loads of stick for criticising Cook last year before Chambers had even beeen released, probably at the time he’d been offered a new contract!

He was a rubbish manager for us, he ripped the heart out of the club with how he treated those here last year - I was much more annoyed about the academy players going than Chambers, much more.

I like LC as a captain, as a player and as a person - but his release was totally understandable, it was handled very badly but it’s hard to argue it wasn’t the right decision. But the way they were all treated, not for me

Don't think Chambers should have made this public, obviously he feels the same way hence the deletion.

However, I think some of the people in this thread are being incredibly harsh to the guy. He was a good captain for us, remember a few weeks ago Hyam saying on the radio that without a doubt he was the best captain he played for.

All this nonsense about him downing tools seems ridiculous to me, whenever I watched him he always did his best but he was an aging centre back playing as a full back.

The way he was treated irked me then and it irks me now, think he deserves better given the amount of games he played here and it's kind of sad most people look back on him poorly just because he unfortunately played for us when we had to scrape by with no money and some crappy managers.

Agreed, and whilst it was probably time for him to go, the way it was handled was distasteful to me.

End of the day regardless of all of that, the fact is Cook has left us in a worse place than when he came in, despite being afforded all the riches a manager in this league could dream of, he'll be gutted no doubt, but can't really have any complaints.
