It's unfounded comments like that making true racists even more entrenched in their beliefs. In my opinion anyway. Argue about true racism but not about perceived racism.

reading prince Phillip stuff on Twitter on 17:30 - Apr 9 by jeera | I think it's fair to say a number are, wouldn't you? It's an obvious one I know, but I'd suggest maybe JRM as being fairly right of centre. Just an example. |
This. Some Tory MPs are horribly right wing. Others are horribly misguided. Many are both. The issue is that at the last election there was no sensible/viable alternative for anyone inhabiting the centre ground. Politics in this country is in such a state that votes are often cast on a 'needs must' basis and not out of choice - it's a case of voting for the least worst. Most people vote first and foremost based on their personal position and because of the lack of choice, this leads to 'wrong' 'choices' being made.

Yes, he has always said a number of cringeworthy off the cuff remarks on about every subject under the sun. Who doesn't. That does not make a person inherently racist. Privileged etc, which is another subject, but racist no. How can he spend a lot of his life supporting the Commonwealth, in his role, and be racist? If you saw some of the comments by people who actually knew him you would see you are wrong in your assumption.

Meh. I think we can all evaluate the racist stuff he said without you trying to distract from it. There's no excusing it really. Accept it and counterbalance it with the better aspects of his character, of which I'm sure there were many. No need to have a meltdown defending him. He wasn't your grandad and you're not in his will. Denying reality is never a good look. The fact that you ask how the Commonwealth can in any way be considered a racist undertaking only serves to demonstrate that you don't really know what you're talking about. If those countries don't want to be part of the Commonwealth they can always become independent of it. King George VI was the first Head of the Commonwealth, and Queen Elizabeth II became Head when he died. But the British king or queen is not automatically Head of the Commonwealth. Commonwealth member countries choose who becomes Head of the Commonwealth. In fact since it was formed countries from Africa, the Americas, Asia, Europe and the Pacific have joined the Commonwealth. Membership today is based on free and equal voluntary co-operation. In fact two of those joining countries have no links to the former British Empire. You are mixing your historical information up. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

The fact that you wrote that tells me an awful lot about you, sadly
