This is not really news 20:46 - Oct 20 with 2778 views | Illinoisblue | But my word, Aston Villa are rubbish. If ever a team reflected its manager it’s them. That perplexed Gerrard face and his furrowed brow is pretty much how his team plays.

I’ll reserve judgement until I see how entertaining his pressers are.

Forearms on show from this team are pathetic, frankly.

This is not really news on 21:05 - Oct 20 with 2378 views | quirkie | Gerrard gone in the morning? I guess the likes of Villa will go for a seasoned foreign manager, certainly won't be looking in Div 3 for their next manager...

This is not really news on 21:18 - Oct 20 with 2308 views | Seablu | Serial failure for England. Made his name from a couple of lucky penalty shoot outs for Liverpool. Managed to win a two-horse race in a ridiculously poor Scottish League. Dissed Tyrone. I bet a mate he’d be gone before Truss, looks like she’s pipped him by 24 hours and cost me a crispy tenner.

He seems to be out of his depth at Villa, but he did well at Rangers and he was a fantastic footballer.

Was reading the other day that general feeling at the time up there seemed to be things had gone a bit stale at the end and it was time for him to move on. Villa seem to have got the fast tracked experience of that. Think there was always a bit of Mick Beale being seen as the brains of the operation anyway and now obviously he's doing quite well on his own.

This is not really news on 00:47 - Oct 21 with 1678 views | mrfixit426 | It's another manager failing as soon as his trusted number two has gone. How many times have we seen this? We have experience here with Burley/Roberts, Lambert/Ullathorne and Cook/Richardson. I'd even go back as far to say Clough was never the same after the split with Peter Taylor. It's really important who managers surround themselves with.

He was a very good player for England and possibly the best English midfielder of the last 30 years. Did a very good job at Rangers. Mings has been poor for a long while.

Strange opinion of probably the best England player of his generation. Dragged some very ordinary Liverpool sides to winning some serious trophies. Albeit he never won a Premier League. Also showed a lot of loyalty, a one club man. When he had the world at his feet and could have been a money mercenary Which is commendable, imo.. Was very successful in turning Rangers round, in his first managerial role. Winning their first title in a while... Can't blame him for having a crack at Premier League management. I get the impression his ultimate aim would be a return to Liverpool, one day, as manager.. Hasn't worked our for him at Villa. Shows the difference in levels between PL and SPL, imo.. He looks like he's got a bit to learn, yet, on the coaching side, at the very highest level.. Can't knock him as a player, in his day, though. Imo. He was "actually" World Class. Hence Mourinho in his prime, was forever courting Gerrard to join Chelski..

Although I can understand it, I was surprised he left Rangers for Villa. Realistically, given the riches in the Prem, how far was he ever going to take Villa? I appreciate they've got incredibly wealthy owners who chuck money at it, but when the 'top 6' is pretty much set, everyone else is scrapping it out for a Europa League Conference spot, hardly thrilling going to play some Slovenian second division side on a Thursday night. I thought another 2-3 years at Rangers, competing for titles and cups and having a decent run in the Champions League/Europa would've set him up better for the Liverpool job.
