Impressive feat.

Has it been attempted in those conditions before? How close have others come?

He tried it last year and missed it by about 20 seconds.

An impressive feat no doubt but all those conditions only took 1:50 off his world record time.

Can’t imagine too many can afford 40 pacemakers plus vehicles marking laser lines in the road for them to run to etc. A few have tried but mainly they’re all in races when you usually have other things to think about.

Well, now you put it like that, it's pretty average.

Yes bear in mind I’ve just rubbished ‘well being week’ in the office for the last few days! Even Mrs F says I’m a miserable old git!

That's an interesting comparison.

Although 1 min 50 is still quite a bit.

Does he hold the WR?

His world best time is actually a far more impressive achievement than today's marathon.

No such thing as a world record for the marathon; it is called a world best because of the differences between different courses.

An amazing achievement and some people are slating him for having help. It's not as though he got help from someone on a motorbike is it?

Agree and also people are gettinh caught up in 'it's not a world record' that's never been mentioned it was about showing that getting under 2hrs was possible and it was!!

Yes, 2:01:39 is his world best time.

That's more impressive in my opinion.

Both bloody impressive to be fair.

Probably a bad week to do it, when people are questioning how clean the sport is.

People have a right to their opinion.

I don't think anyone is saying it's not impressive, it's just some think his WR is more impressive. Which maybe it is.

Good on him.

It's a good job Roger Bannister didn't have Brasher and Chataway as pacemakers.

Yes, well I welled up a little when I saw the last 200m in slow motion head on with Eliud steaming in and his pace setters (all top athletes in their own right) willing him on.

I thought it was a great achievement and a rare moment of really positive news.
