My worry is being dropped completely from the squad will have dented his confidence, and, if selected, possibly affect his performance. I often wonder that ref his stretching but I now think it's just a personal / superstitious thing maybe
I also believe his time out has been due to the fact that he's not been 100% right in terms of fitness

If he was then there really isn't any excuse for it, timekeeping should be a basic requirement, and what time do they start training? 10.30? so realistically you want to be in for 9.30 at the latest, being late is poor form. |  |

Why would you want to get in an hour early - wouldn't warming up take just 15 mins or so, plus maybe allow an extra 15mins in case of heavy traffic? |  |

No reason why he can’t bounce back. And I think it’s been a form/confidence issue too as physically he still has all the attributes.
I do think he needs a little leeway given he’s possibly the one player in the team not playing in his favoured position. And the style of our ambitious approach playing it out from the back probably leaves him a bit more exposed than he or we would like.
But as a pure defender he should still be fine and his value may be clearer in these bigger and tougher clashes where there will be more opportunity to impose himself on the game with those defensive strengths. |  |
