I think it's very hard to gauge what sort of price is 'fair'. Everton are probably in their right to point to him getting 7 in 17 at Sunderland and suggesting he's possibly a 20 goal a season man in the Championship.

If achieved, those sort of players, with his profile, aged 22 - you see go for the £20m+ fees.

I had heard that a couple of our key targets are proving to more expensive than we thought they would be.

Huge jump in costs from League 1 to Championship in general for anybody established, or with a future, especially when clubs know buyers have funds and there’s several parties interested. As shrewd as we would like to be, sometimes you have to pay the money to get what you want.

Be interesting to see how much Leicester would want for him, if they don't keep him... Wasn't it a reported 7m buy clause, on Blackburns loan to buy deal with Hirst...Not saying he's worth anywhere near that, btw. But can't see him coming here for peanuts. Probably 3-3.5 mil.. (Some are saying 2m, but I think it to be more than that)..And we might need an upgrade on Hirst, Ladapo, from last season... I can see us paying a large fee, for an upgrade on what we had last season.... But wouldn't be shocked either way, if it did or didn't get done..

Its hard to see who but us or League One team would come in for him to be honest.
His stats are hardly electric.
two donuts in the championship and 1 in the Prem - would be seen as a hell of a risk by most teams in the championship - when Leicester fans play "our starting lineup" he doesn't even make their bench.

This account is very ITK all things Everton apparently, Everton fans swear by him.

They seem to think that we have offered £2.5m + £1.5m of add-ons, whereas Everton want £4m + £2m of add-ons

SO big difference in initial fees but not insurmountable and when you see hwat he has achieved and his age it seems what you'd expect to be paying

Ashton is very shrewd but these PL clubs probably have shrewder operators.

Everton are no Peterborough……..

It'll be interesting to see how we play it. You want your main striker in for the bulk of pre-season really. Everton have obviously been trying to drum up interest but looking around I am not sure who else would be in for him at that sort of fee. Sunderland seem out of the equation.

Sounds like they'd like to use him in pursuit of Gyokeres, but not sure they'll get him

Would have been very good value when we had him on trial in 2018 and could have got him for about £50,000!

Given his obvious talent & potential, he surely wouldn't have stuck with us in L1 through the ME dross years prior to KM's arrival though would he?

The version I’m getting is that player terms have been agreed, just signing fee and it’s structure are being discussed, as you say, we are aiming for more in way of add ons, rather than up front fee.

I think Hirst is a good example of what a player can bring to the team, in our case. And not necessarily about his individual stats. Theres no doubt, imo, that we functioned better as a unit once he'd settled in. Even though he wasn't prolific, the goals he did score were vitally important, too...
The other thing, as well, is that KM and his team are really, really, good coaches. So I don't obsess over what a player has done under other coaches, at other teams..
Lastly, with some fans getting a bit sweaty over us risking seemingly high fees. Let's not forget we paid 2.5 million for Marcus Sterwart and that was 23years ago... You'd expect prices to be a fare bit inflated since then. So, personally wouldn't be shocked to hear about us spending 5mil on a player these days..
