Today marks a MA-HOO-SIVE day in the history of Town football club 06:14 - Jun 1 with 2409 views | unstableblue | With the arrival of Mark Ashton as the clubs CEO. Our first seemingly qualified club executive appointment since the departure of Derek Bowden in 2009. Marcus Evans’ own direction - exemplified by failed managerial appointments - and off field leadership choices were completely unqualified. We need him to be a success, we need to lead a transformation of so many aspects of the club. He needs to team and gel with Cook positively. Bristol City fans will tell you it’s all management speak and hype rather than footballing substance - and perhaps the three lions are capable of being duped by that. But it needs to be a clean slate and full backing from Town fans. Hopefully the signings will flow and further off field improvements.

Is Ashton the greatest CEO since Julius Caesar or the great Satan as Bristol City fans paint him? No idea, but what I do see in Bristol City is a club far better than ours in every way and that shouldn’t be. Ashton has a track record as a CEO and is clearly up for the job. Hopefully he will offer a little more than Clegg reluctantly painting the turnstiles. The new ownership is bringing structure and organisation to the club. Very quickly, it’s become clear they know what they want to do. The key to everything for me. The Chairman, CEO downwards are football people, unlike dear Marcus and his offerings. In the ups and downs to come, I hope people get behind the club and give the manager a chance too. He hasn’t very long to do an awful lot. Good times ahead for the first time in years, in my view. It'll be interesting to see how it all goes, certainly. Do wonder whether there's going to be a bit of a power struggle between Ashton et al. and Cook et al., because the mentality and approach don't look too complimentary to me, but we'll see. Certainly we've needed a proper structure at the club for ages, so no complaints, and good luck to them all in working out who's responsible for what!

It’s an interesting one. Cook strikes me as a ‘get your tanks off my lawn’ kind of person, which might conflict with Ashton’s modus operandi. Not knowing either, they may work in perfect harmony. Time will of course tell but if there is conflict between Ashton and Cook, the latter will be gone in no time. [Post edited 1 Jun 2021 7:18]

Cook also seems like the kind of manager who would expect to be making decisions across all aspects of the club, in MM kind of way, and in the way that he was probably originally brought in by Evans to do. Ashton seems more like the kind of chap who would prefer a younger, more inexperienced 'coach' type manager (like Dean Holden at BC) who would be happier fitting in with a club structure.

With a CEO comes a strategic plan. Everything from squad recruitment, academy development, match day experience etc are all now collective decisions with measurable outcomes. Cook and Ashton will already know if its going to work or not.

I’m old enough to have lived through Sheepshanks’ mishandling of the club and Evans’ dismal era — understandably, the fans get very excited when there’s a new regime and are blind to obvious failings (cf. Lambert’s relegation season). It’s why I’m waiting for Cook to impress rather than assume it’s all been part of some grand plan to rip everything up 🤷ðŸ»â€â™‚ï¸ | | | | Login to get fewer ads

If Ashton gets Cooks targets in, and Cook gets them winning all will be fine. If either fails Cook will be history pretty quickly.

A positive on Ashton is his time at Watford on 11:20 - Jun 1 with 1182 views | unstableblue | From 2004 and 2008 they made some real progress (before a drop back), and with bonkers owners! 2004—05 Championship 2005—06 Championship promoted 2006—07 Premier League relegated 2007—08 Championship 6th* 2008—09 Championship 13th

What I'm hoping Joe is that Ashton is going to put in place a clear Vision (where we want to be in 4 years (yes that might be championship play-offs, but it should include other items such as season ticket sales, fan engagement); from that a clear Strategy is defined with SMART objectives (measurable - something Cook, Klugg, the retail manager, etc etc, agree are achievable and they sign-up to), and from the objectives a clear Implementation Plan with milestones. Thats what other clubs have had in spades, we've had the 5point plan, and I assumes some lower level targets). Everyone he meets today at the club, should be aware this coming, buy-into it, and be aware it is the expectation of the Owners that is funded - BUT ALSO MEASURED An example would be at the micro level, people attending matchday hospitality, fill out a feedback form, and 4/5 is the minimum averaage, queue times at bars is 5mins minimum, and this season on the pitch is X wins, X goals, X league position. Feck knows how you'd measure academy success next term!! with all prospects (Dobra, Lankester et al) heading for the exit

Today marks a MA-HOO-SIVE day in the history of Town football club on 11:43 - Jun 1 with 1046 views | chicoazul | OP seems to be saying that we have to support Ashton now and give him full backing. This seems naive. After the last few years it is right for any and all of us to approach everything the new owners (and Cook) do with a dollop of scepticism and cynicism. It’s up to them to impress us now, not for us to fall at Ashtons feet.

Think they mean give the guy more than 4 months before wanting him gone.

"Queue times at bars is 5 minutes minimum". Yep, and then sell them something while they're queueing.
