Indeed. And anyway, even if the ref was ours it would still only be 11.5 men with Chaplin on the pitch!

All the commentary I've heard suggested he was asking them to get behind the team but at the time I took it to mean "this ref's an idiot, give him hell" He completely lost it, over a questionable free kick (I did think it was harsh) and a possible offside - how on earth he could tell that I don't know.

Maybe I'm in a minority but I didn't think the atmosphere changed all that much as a result of Garner being a cock. It was the subs and in particular Aneke that changed the game.

Ben Garner on 13:30 - Oct 31 with 2445 views | starofanglia | He had a point though as it wasn't a free kick and it was offside, although he failed to mention the clear handball (leading to a red card) which wasn't given for us. Either way ridiculous over reaction and comments in the presser which he should cop a hefty ban for.
Ben Garner on 13:55 - Oct 31 with 2293 views | DJR | He wound up the crowd and I believe the crowd did play a part in the comeback, just as it did against Wednesday and Plymouth. Indeed, there were a few occasions on Saturday in the latter stages when the way Charlton were playing reminded of the way they obliterated us last season. In any event, whatever we think, he and the Charlton fans will obviously think what he did achieved what he wanted. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

I thought he was targeting the referee and inciting the crowd to do the same. If the authorities take that view, he's in for a bit of trouble.

I don't think the crowd made much of a difference really. Between 2-0 and 2-1 Charlton looked ragged, lethargic, far more likely to concede a 3rd than get back into things. If anything the goal came from our momentum rather than theirs. We were pressing them very aggressively and they just barely managed to play through it. Once they had managed to play through it (just about!) we had a lot of players ahead of the ball and defenders isolated in one-on-one matchups. Even after they got that one the crowd were only up for 5 minutes or so, they scored once the crowd had settled down, from a poor shot that Walton should have held. Obviously our 4th killed the atmosphere, half the crowd left. The only goal that was momentum/atmosphere related was their 4th.

He was whipping up the fans on his way down the touchline, after initially refusing to leave the dugout. Said Charlton played against 12 men and that the ref wasn’t up to reffing in League 1, hopefully a big fine.

Yes, when he got sent off I mentioned how he had a screw loose. However, it completely pumped the crowd up and in turn the team , so fair play.

Perhaps it's not as black and white as I said, but one thing was that very noticeable was that our fans became almost silent between their second and our third.

He certainly failed to act in a professional manner and deserves to be fined for his behaviour. Let's hope we look back and recall Charlton away as a point gained which I do feel it was. The way we play does take a lot out of the players and we could do with our injured back sooner rather than later.
