This is a thread about how scary a world it is right now for Jews and this is one (of many) examples of sections of society openly calling for their death. That's scary and shouldn't be happening or quietly tolerated.

Of course, I’m in solidarity with Jewish people having to deal with disgusting antisemitism and especially violent views like this. I abhor all racism.
But I don’t think it’s unreasonable to apply some balance to posts such as yours with Nick Timothy’s framing that suggest that this is the norm in mosques and Islamic centres across the country. The guy has previous form of maligning British Muslims from his involvement in the islamophobic Trojan Horse affair. Especially as the Israel-Gaza conflict isn’t just seeing a rise in antisemitism but islamophobia too.
What will be telling is if you or the usual suspects can’t accept that. Even if it was responding to a post in a thread about antisemitism. [Post edited 21 Nov 2023 16:15]

I didn’t post about islamophobia on here until I saw what looks suspiciously close to it.
We can and should have threads that stay on topic but that doesn’t mean you can’t respond to things you don’t agree with. I similarly responded to your framing that suggested that pro-Palestinian protesters were helping spread violent Jew-hate, which I notice is still up.
None of which minimises antisemitism or is me disagreeing that it’s a scary time for Jewish people. | |

Years ago back at university I knew several overseas Israeli students. All of them very generous and with a love of good hash, a laugh apart from on the subject of Palestine. Many had done national service, often involving manning checkpoints, and they were filled with awful stories and lots of anger, and I see now PTSD from this trauma. I realised that the fear of total destruction was with them all the time. Their mothers had taken up arms and fought for their lives on Yom Kipper. And behind that darker family stories of pogroms and The Holocaust. They lived in constant existential dread of invasion and genocide from the Arab States. Ive been thinking about those lads a lot since this started, how all their fears are confirmed to them, and that anger now unleashed. A total horror. |

No doubt that there is a problem with religion and beliefs justifying racism and racist violence. But that’s on both sides (cf religious zionists and ultrazionists many of whom are effectively supremacists).
There has to be a predominantly humanist and humanitarian response under international law to Israel-Palestine. Sidelining the extremist leaders and their supporters not just in the region but overseas so more sensible, compassionate and just voices start defining the way forward.
It is after all 2023. |
