But he cloaked his surname in a clumsy attempt to hide his Ipswich origins and the well-known town high school he attended.

He actually was a year above me in my old school in Crawley :D

Useless fact for the day.

Although, as Phil has pointed out, he did manage a team from the home dugout at Portman Road

So the prophecy still holds good.

A waistcoat was the school uniform. Nothing else. Until that headmaster was arrested.

We had a PE teacher in our school who insisted that the boys could not wear underpants when playing rugby with the dubious justification that "you don't see the top players wearing pants"

Very fecking odd.

We had a games teacher who used to rip the towels from some if the boys waists and slap them on the arse with it as they ran out of the showers. Never occurred to us he may have been a pervert. Just thought he enjoyed hitting kids.

It certainly occurred to me and my schoolmates that our teacher was a pervert, but aside from the odd scare about men in vans trawling the streets for kids it was pretty much ignored in those days.

'He enjoyed hitting kids' is pretty strong grounds for not being suitable for working wit them, as well....
