The stadium looks run down,,,,,

I held a conference in the players lounge 2 weeks ago, as you pull up and walk towards reception, the amount of seagull sh*t on the blue side of the building looks horrendous.

Dont we own a jet washer? if it was my business i would get that sorted straight away, - even do it myself to make a point because i care. First impressions were not good from my staff and gave them a reason to take the p*ss.

Sort it out evans

Not quite as simple as "having a jetwash". Also need to think of access, rules on working at height, how long it would take, closing parts of the pavement/road (health & safety regarding members of the public), etc., etc.

The costs soon mount up. In the grand scheme of running a football club maybe not much, but things are being cut all round and it might mean employing one fewer staff members in the ticket office or something like that.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

Endless endless endless excuses from certain people on here for Evans' indolence and couldn't care less attitude. This is our football club as much as it is his and all these symptoms of the malaise are not something that recently popped up or people have only just started to notice, so the idea that it can't be done because of relegation is fallacious.

That's the crux though.

I love the idea that fans want to come in with a tin of paint and get the place sorted but it's no good unless these fans have the proper certification, insurance & equipment.

It looks like what it is. A 3rd tier football clubs home ground.

Q: Would you rather have £1/4m(?) spent on prettying up the place or the £1/4m(?) spent on wages/player recruitment*

*I'm not picking on you or looking for an argument but effectively the club's being run on a v tight budget with little to no wiggle room for "niceties". This is where we are now.

Blame Hurst. Blame Evans. Blame Hurst & Evans.

Costs (especially off-pitch) were being slashed to bone long before relegation. It's just a function of having an owner who cannot, or will not, simply pour money into the club.

Which is itself a result of being in a business where inflation has been allowed to spiral out of control, causing inevitable unprofitability. Which was also the point at which football stopped belonging to us, the fans, and fell into the ownership of TV monopolies and wealthy benefactors (upon whose whim alone money can be spent).

Nobody, or rather, not me, is asking fans to pop up with a tin of paint and some ladders. I reject the idea at the heart of your post, that we can't have a decent tidy nice stadium AND spend the equivalent on wages/fees due to a) all the windfalls the club has received this summer & wouldn't have been on any budget b) the fact our owner is hugely rich and could pay for club repairs out of his own pocket and c) that somehow painting a few gates and tidying up the place is "niceities".

"pour money into the club" these are such utterly pissening words. Tidying up the stadium taking some pride in how we present ourselves to the outside world, taking some pride in providing a nice decent stadium for fans, doesnt require pouring money into anything. It requires a little bit of forethought and a modest outlay which would be more than covered by the fees from Mings and Clarke for instance. You and others continue to make excuses for Evans' terrible attitude towards us.

Budgets innit.

Running cost budget. Wages budget. Transfer budget.

It's a club run on the very foundations that the other ME companies are run on. As had been mentioned before on numerous occasions, football is now too expensive for our owner.

Looking at my facebook feed, there's plenty of fans offering the painting & decorating skills to the club.

Do you really really think that "football is now too expensive for our owner" a man worth some 500m+ = he can't clean up the stadium? After achieving several windfalls for sell-ons already this summer with one or two more on the cards?
Or is it instead that he just doesnt care?

So why do you and others keep making excuses for him, explaining patiently to us that painters need permits, there is a budget dont you know Chico, do you want a clean stadium or the same money spent on wages/fees, do you want Joan in Planet Blue to keep her job, etc etc etc?

EDIT; i'm sorry, this post reads very aggressively. I am not being antagonistic toward you Guthrum and others. I understand and respect your positions.

I'm not making excuses for him, I'm just kinda accepting/understanding (for want of better terms) where we are right now with ME in charge. I'd love a Gazillionaire to come in.

The club is run very much like any reasonable size business. If I want a new laptop, I have to fill out a Purchase Req, complete with justification and a quote from the supplier for higher level approval. I've got a spend to £xxx allowed before I need sign off.

Same rules here now.

Answer me this.

If you were working 16 hour days on minimum wage and coming home shattered, sleeping and then going to work again, only to find at the end of the month your wages didn't even cover your existing bills, would you hire a cleaner?

We are the football equivalent. As others have pointed out, the costs mount up. It could easily cost £250,000 a season to renovate and clean the stadium, hiring all the equipment, cherry pickers, insurance and so on and so on. That may well be 10 people's annual salary within the club.

I would love us to have a beautiful looking stadium but we are now at a level where the annual cleaning costs probably equate to a first team player's transfer fee!

Even it's as little as £100,000, that's money that Evans is finding out of his own pocket on top of however many millions. I can see why people think it's easy to spend millionaires money but it doesn't work like that.

They are more costs that the club will have to present in its account. Nothing is dangerous. It just looks tardy, which reflects us losing £6m a year and not having money to spend on stuff that doesn't improve the teams chances.

The guy already pumps in millions each year.

Why should he pay even more so that the stadium meets Chicoazul off TWTD's standards?

How does it help the first team? It does absolutely nothing to help us on the pitch.

If we are turning over a huge profit each year then it's something that shouldn't be an issue. But we are p*ssing money like it's nobodies business.

I'd rather have a new right back than a shiny roof free of leaves, and yes, we are talking that sort of money for the entire stadium to be deep cleaned.

This, many times over.

It cannot be beyond the powers of man to clean the side of a building.

The club is in a state in many ways, but for some reason people can't seem to admit this.

However, we clearly have an owner set on minimising losses to the maximum extent possible and not putting in a penny more than necessary. Didn't say I thought that was a good thing, merely the way it is and there's not a lot we can do about it.

Unless, perhaps, someone can get the Council onto the club's back for making the town untidy (like they do with overgrown gardens).

I maintain somewhat tongue in cheek, that ME inherited his fortune, there is no way that he made his money from hospitality and promotion, hospitality is all about perception and Portman Road, along with the match day in the round is shabby.

I work for a company that specialises in difficult access and a job like cleaning a stadium roof and cladding could easily exceed a couple of hundred K.

You wouldn't be able to jet wash hanging from ropes so it would have to be done the old fashioned way with a bucket and sponge which takes an awful lot longer.

Problem is, unless we can find a wealthier owner (rich list net worth does not equal cash to spend, far from it), or costs are reduced overall, we're stuck. Football is b@ggered and we are just going down a different (slightly less dramatic) route of dissolution than the likes of Bolton. We might have been further down that road already were it not for Evans in 2007, we might not.

You don't need to be a weatherman to know which way the wind blows.

Nothing wrong about what you've written. However if MEG can't afford to wash the sh1t off the premises without trimming other essential resources you really have to take issue. That doesn't mean I blame everything on Evans, there are wider factors as anyone intelligent understands.

Endless detail, as reasonable as it may be, only masks what even the most staunch Marcus apologists surely understand.

We could have worse owners, fine, but the bloke is making it fooking hard for me to give him any more rope.

I think I might actually prefer 250k spent on the ground.

Having it all sorted might instill a bit of pride which could actually be a bigger bonus that any players we can get for 250k.

The problem with the argument of "wouldnt you rather spend x on players" is the fact we arent doing that either.

We've done nothing special in this window, the club is as disorganised and making as many mistakes as before and to top it all off the whole stadium is so run down the manager feels the need to comment on it. I'm not sure the ground being in the state it is helps convince players to sign.

12k attendances, an owner who doesnt care and a manager that's openly criticising those above him and won 4 games last season....

Players must be queuing up!
