TV shows with endings that live up to expectation (no spoilers) 15:02 - Oct 1 with 12423 viewsJ2BLUE

Please don't post any spoilers for the shows

I'm tired of watching tv shows where the ending is a disappointment (Fortitude, GOT, Lost etc etc). The endings always feel rushed and lacking any real conclusion.

Please name some decent shows where the ending is worth the wait and the investment of watching several series.

Cheers

Ok cheers.

Not accessible to me atm then but it'll be on somewhere at a later date I suppose.

Shame though, it was Channel 4 or something before I'm sure.

fargo's always been on fx in the us, so it might be on channel 4 again over here, but am guessing one of the streaming services will outbid it...

Blake's Seven

Looks absolutely terrible today but I was entranced with it as a kid. Loved Orac and Avon, started with a great script which faded big time, but the ending left no doubt.

For me still one of the greatest theme tunes ever! (I'm 45 so cut me some reminiscent slack )

The ending to that was just setting up season two.

Still surprised me how it happened. Surpassed my expectations.... and if / when we get a second season it should be great - I was expecting an end to the programme there and then..... now we have a likely second season - Covid and filming restrictions permitting

Sopranos didn't!

Although I know it was popular with an element of the audience, I need proper closure!

Got to disagree with you there re: sopranos. At the time I thought wtf?! and was really annoyed by it, but after rewatching and digging deeper I think it’s a piece of genius. 13 years later I can still remember how I felt watching it the first time, and I how I felt after piecing together those aha moments where it suddenly made sense. How many shows can you say that about?

Trying to avoid spoilers but the key point, as I see it, is that none of us get closure when our story comes to an end.

Fair enough!

I'll have to revisit it sometime and make a bit more effort.

I loved it. Even the final season. Just the last episode I hated. Can't violate the no spoilers request but it was just ended in the worst way possible. Made zero sense.

Cheers all, i'll have a look at some of your ideas.

The Office
Breaking Bad (superb)
Big Brother, should have ended on Channel 4 and had a great send off
Peep Show.

There was a Battlestar Galactica thread not that long ago. That ends fairly satisfactorily (the remake!)

That was me, funny I watched the last episode last night

Really cheaply done, but brilliantly written.

Been renewed for a 3rd season I believe, so not ended yet! It was very good though!

On the Gervais theme, Derek nailed the bittersweet "there's something in my eye" ending too

I haven't watch Derek, its on my list

I though the scene between Penelope Wilton and Peter Egan was really well done and brought back memories of ever decreasing circles

Mrs Brown's Boys when they all get caught up in a combine harvester when out for a family stroll was great. The reversing back over them afterwards was a super touch.

I think I remember the ending of Blake's Seven so vividly is because it was the first series that I watched as a kid that didn't have a "and they all lived happily ever after" ending. The first one you see like that burns a deep memory. Similarly the first 'grown up' film I think I saw was "The Man Who Would Be King". The memory of that ending is burned in deep too.

I never liked Gervais until I watched Derek. He played that part perfectly.

Breaking Bad was the best series finale I've ever seen.

I'm just hoping the final series of Better Call Saul next year is a belter!
