5 wins out of 7 now.... 08:30 - Feb 7 with 7068 views | itfcjoe | ....and still an absolute country mile away from the play offs. So frustrating just how far off it we were left to get, we are going to need something like 11 wins in our last 16 games with a couple of draws just to have a coin flip chance of making the top 6. Must win tomorrow, must play better than Saturday....

5 wins out of 7 now.... on 14:33 - Feb 7 by thebooks | I think the most important thing is promotion, and to that end maybe a Warnock-like appointment might have done the job. Might not have, of course; I’m probably just expressing some frustration at yet another dismal performance against a mediocre team in the third tier of football. That doesn’t mean I’m against KM — after all, he has started better than the two apparently experienced, high quality appointments who preceded him. What I’m saying is that the whole point of giving him the job is to instill that better, longterm style, when I think the priority should have been promotion at all costs. Maybe Warnock until the end of this season, then someone like KM. You’re right that the enthusiasm has gone, but I think that’s mainly because the play-offs look very unlikely now. As others point out, even with 5 wins from 7, we’re still miles away — not much more results-wise KM could have done. It’s a long end to the season from here if we play like we did on Saturday. |
But would Warnock have done better than 5 wins out of 7? And we've seen how close (or far) from the play offs this has left us - so we could have gone ultra short term, had them done a very good job and still not made it. McKenna has had a big short term bounce, bigger than any of us would have expected

5 wins out of 7 now.... on 14:17 - Feb 7 by BiGDonnie | Perhaps we should have signed a magician to immediately turn things around? 5/7 and still got people moaning like this FFS. |
I’m moaning about the performance on Saturday. It really was dire. But yeah, it was a win.

Did you give him the first two games to change the style and then think that's it? KM's been here for less than two months and people are moaning that we haven't turned into Barcelona. It's actually laughable.

"It’s a long end to the season from here if we play like we did on Saturday." I do find that a bit over the top reaction to Saturday, even allowing for how crap the game was. Gillingham deserve some credit for the way they played, both them and Harris had points to prove clearly, but I don't see every team matching that press. And our failings were largely sloppiness in my view, central midfield didn't contribute enough but our passing was pretty poor throughout. We were a lot better in that regard the week before without creating the chances we managed on Saturday. A work in progress, no need to assume it will go as badly as with previous managers.

Yeah, that’s true. It was odd, though. The match felt really flat and dull, which I think was purely down to the familiarity of the performance, regardless of the result. Maybe (and it’s all ifs) Warnock would have got the 5 out of 7 but had us playing aggressive football where we got hold of matches like that. It would have just felt better than a laboured, plodding performance. It got me thinking these really are all problems with the complacency in the club, rather than the manager; whereas Lambert and Cook just underperformed.

If we'd made up 4/5 points on the top 6 over those 7 games people would feel a lot better. That we haven't is largely out of McKenna's hands.

Wigan aren't barcelona, but they have more than 1 shot on target in a game Donnie. Wanting more doesn't mean we go from being Ipswich to Barcelona, just means we want to compete with the big boys of league 1.

5 wins out of 7 now.... on 13:32 - Feb 7 by LankHenners | Saturday was a banner day for the people behind me who get very agitated by short passing at the back and scream 'get it forwards!' and then let out a cry of 'who was that too?!' when a long ball is won by an opposition defender. |

5 wins out of 7 now.... on 14:06 - Feb 7 by jayessess | It's weird, the teams we were chasing, MK Dons and Oxford, have picked up the pace, whilst 2 of the teams who were out of reach, Sunderland and Wycombe, have dropped off. If everyone's current form roughly continues you'd be looking at MK Dons 3rd, Oxford 4th, Sheff Wed 5th, Then between us and Wycombe for 6th. |
Sheff we'd have more chance than us of getting in the play offs after losing to them,End up above them and we will be in the play offs, highly unlikely as we didn't perform there, if we'd have beaten them they would be out of contention,

Wednesday have got Wigan next, followed by Rotherham and Accrington. Interested to see where they're at after that lot. I think Luongo, Bannan and Dele-Bashiru is probably the strongest midfield 3 in the division, so every chance they'll go on a run. That said, us not performing at Hillsborough isn't the be all and end all of anything. We might improve, they might get worse, it might have been an off day. Who knows.
