European weekender..... 14:23 - Feb 7 with 4629 views | itfcjoe | ....trying to book something for a weekend in late June to go away with Mrs itfcjoe and seeing if any recommendations here as proving to be a bit awkward Want somewhere with a nice view, preferably of some water like a nice lake or a coast line, that is easy to get to (i.e. ~2 hour flight, and not a particularly long transfer at the other end), with a couple of nice restaurants and bars as won't want to be doing too much out there. A couple of places like Amalfi coast or even Venice are just a ball ache to get to from airports - and we are leaving kids at home so is only going to be a Friday morning to Sunday afternoon trip so want to make the most of it - and it's our 10th anniversary so need something a little bit special at least.

Fair point re airports. LCY remains an absolute delight though - I landed at 1030 Saturday, was off the plane 1040, was through passport control and had collected my bags by 1050, and drove out of the car park at 1100. Lots of weekend-away destinations, though obviously you wont find Ryanair £9.99 deals.

European weekender..... on 11:49 - Feb 8 with 646 views | MedwayTractor | Like quite a few on here, I'd recommend Lisbon, but check out the June/July temperatures, there's a very good reason for the midday siesta! The city centre is quite hilly, but lots of trams to get you around. If local traditional music is your thing, find a good place for live Fado. If eating out is important as well, see if you can find Rick Stein's Long Weekend programme for Lisbon. His BBC series covers a few other coastal places as well, also check out his series From Venice to Istanbul. I've got a cousin in NZ who was married to a Croatian and she is always going on about his home town of Podgora, it's a resort on the Adriatic coast about an hour & a half transfer time south of Split. I've not been there yet, but Googling suggests it might be decent for a long weekend. If you go, let me know what it's like!

European weekender..... on 17:27 - Feb 8 with 572 views | mikeybloo88 | You haven’t indicated your budget but given your short timeframe I’d definitely do Dubrovnik...weather will be nice, Coast is beautiful, small compact city perfect for just a day and a half. Possibly a bit pricey but if it’s a perfect hotel you want for a treat, close to town and on the airport side, we stayed here and it’s superb https://www.adriaticluxuryhotels.com/grand-villa-argentina?utm_source=google&
