Achilles is a worrying one. Hope we haven’t seen the best of him already.

Is it definitely Achilles, any official report? Seriously hope not - they can be terrible, lengthy lay-offs.

From how KMc talked about it it seemed to be something that was managed towards the end of last season rather than anything knew e.g. he said they put him on a course of treatment over the summer. That suggests a more minor aggravating issue e.g tendonitis rather than a rupture or severe strain. Playing through these minor issues can cause longer term problems.

I thought that’s what KM said in the last few days. Something along the lines that it was hoped that it would clear up over the summer but hasn’t and might need further treatment. It doesn’t sound great to me. I hope he’s not another KVY, because Inreally, really like what we’ve seen of him so far and think he could develop into a top player.

I had an achilles op a few years back. Took over a year to get right. If he has an op that's pretty much his season over l would think, even with the care they get. I said the other day JD is fine, but if he has any injuries l don't rate Ball there. I see they have been playing him there, so they must think Clarke is going to be out. Ball looks way too slow in that position from what lve seen.

Do you think we’re looking at McNally and another (ie Trusty) due to this injury?

Even when you get all the treatment and support, sometimes it's never the same. I say this 15 years into my Achilles. All the physio and quite literally thousands spent with significantly less strength than the other side.
This Harry Clarke injury… on 14:37 - Jul 29 with 4265 views | BLUEBEAT | Another thing… if they deemed he was going to be out longterm, you’d think KVY would still be here unless another suitable player was lined up. KVY may not be up to regular Championship play but he’s a way better option than Ball in that position.

Yeah, friend had it, said it was worse than a broken leg - ie longer and harder to heal. Let’s hope it doesn’t come to that for Harry C. Thanks for all the info all 👍

Not sure we'd be looking at them for his role and whether we bring someone in would depend on how long he might be out for. Achilles injuries do seem to be common in pre-season - or perhaps aggravating them in this instance - due to the ground being harder.

Cheers, interesting that McNally played on the right side of a back-three last season and is obviously right-footed. I wonder whether McKenna will revert to the back 3 and McNally plays on the right-side. (I know a lot of managers have spoken about how important a left-footed player is on the left side of a back three to assist with playing out from the back). Interesting few weeks ahead.

Surgeon at the time told me it would have been better if l had broken my leg. I was 12 weeks in plaster. Did it the year of the Beijing Olympics. It's still weaker than my other leg even now.

An Achilles injury was very common back in the day in parts of Europe and the Near East of course.

If it’s all on the same side (leg), it quite possibly leg biomechanics dysfunction causing internal rotation of the tibia on the femur. That’ll torsion the Achilles tendon which will lead to a tendinopathy (weakness). He probably needs orthotics.

I am 10 months into an achilles problem. Massage & shockwave treatment helps, orthotics (heel raiser) also helps, but the weakness is still there. Horrible injury.

Same here, did mine 7 years ago and haven't really kicked a ball since. Hardly any strength in it at all.
This Harry Clarke injury… on 05:49 - Jul 30 with 2988 views | PhuketPete | Can be bad but not always. I’ve done my Achilles twice since I was 50. (That said I’d describe myself as being in well above average condition for my age). The first time I felt good after about 4-weeks and went for light jog. BIG mistake and had to take off another 6 weeks. Next time I did it I rested 6-8 weeks before doing anything, and then restarted light jogging and it was fine. Trouble is for a pro to do no legwork for weeks is a nightmare. But not resting or treating it is worse. The PR team will find a way but he could easily be out until Christmas. Am also slightly concerned at Massimo’s injury. His style of play is going to aggravate anything that isn’t right esp now he’s over 30 so suspect he may get rested a bit longer if it hasn’t yet fully cleared up.
