Anyone watch this on ITV over the last three nights?

Thought it was superbly done, and Michael Sheen was his usual superb self. The chap playing Ingram was pretty good as well.

Interesting dramatisation of the events and, assuming the facts of the trial were as given/encountered (despite tweaking other bits slightly for dramatic effect) I think it casts serious doubt on the safety of Ingram's conviction, especially as I felt there was enough there to engender 'reasonable doubt'.

Thoughts?

Agree that it was pretty well done and that - if it was factually correct - there must be some doubt about the verdict.
As an aside, it was interesting that the court heard there was significant coughing over vital questions when Judith Keppel also won her million pounds. I always found it a strange coincidence that - considering she was distantly related to such royalty as Camilla, Eleanor of Aquitaine and Henry ll, that her final £1 million question was: Which King was married to Eleanor of Aquitaine - with Henry ll as the correct answer.

We are all directly descended from Henry II.

Agree, I thought it was pretty much a done n dusted verdict till I heard that superb barrister come up with all the previously unconsidered arguments for the defence.

What was most fascinating to me was the outbreak of coughing in the courtroom, looked like one of those instances of mass hysteria! Also the reveal about the organisation (the Syndicate) that got people through by cramming & mobile phone jiggery pokery, responsible for about 10% of the total amount ever won on the show.

Sheen got Chris Tarrant's voice & mannerisms down to a fine art, he'd certainly done his homework & got in plenty of practice in front of a mirror!

Shocking about the dog if true, hadn't realised things had got that bad for the Ingrams.

Yes, thought Sheen was excellent as Chris Tarrant. The major's wife on TV also bore an uncanny resemblance to the real person.

The pet being shot by a pellet gun was true, although it was their cat, not dog.

Pretty sick, cowardly thing to do.

Hi Rocks.

To be fair, even I would know the Henry ll answer and if anything I was surprised how straight forward that was for the final question.

Apparently the Ingrams has said how accurate the programme was, apart from the accusations of course!

But as for the court case we've only seen a selective section played out haven't we.

I only saw the 2nd and 3rd episode so missed a it of background there.

Tricky one and I'm sure the programme deliberately sawyed the end towards leaving that bit of doubt for the viewer. But there was certainly that seed planted.

But for her to have been in contact with someone she'd not met knowing he was about to go into the chair...

I agree, there's definitely a resemblance. However is it just me that found the TV one quite sexy? The same certainly can't be said for the real life person.

At first glance, when seeing the comparison photos I thought it was her.

Again, Ingram himself has said how weird it was seeing Sheen as Tarrant and said he had him to a T.

It was also the behind the scenes stuff that was so interesting. It was obvious that the Ingrams strained every sinew to get on the show and do well - even, as you say, contacting someone who was about to go on the show - and also finding out how people were selected by telephone etc. What was interesting too was just how organised and persevering some people are to get on quiz shows. As an aside, I looked up info about Judith Keppel and she tried 50 times on the phone before she was able to get on the show.

Tarrant himself said Sheen had nailed it. It's honestly one of the best impersonations I've ever seen - superb acting.

Major's wife was in Fleabag too. She was well cast.

It is interesting how innocent the show portrayed them.

Mate, an old pal, who is ridiculously knowledgeable, spend thousands in phone calls trying to get on.

I'm talking every 15 minutes all day every day for weeks, with no joy.

I don't understand how others got on there because of that syndicate help. Getting the questions right on the phone wasn't difficult as I had a few goes myself.

There wasn't too much taxing about those that you needed outside help.

I fully appreciate I've probably missed something because I didn't see the first one and was only half-heartedly watched the other two whilst messing about on here or elsewhere and knocking back a few beers.

The wiki page of the major says he was later kicked out of the army after he was found to have committed more than 1 insurance fraud. If that is true (these predate the appearance on WWTBAM) then that would suggest he isnt quite the 'nice but dim' as portrayed.
