Orwell Bridge 11:50 - Jun 22 with 1354 viewsBlueBlueBluex2

In the news today due to the increasing number of people who visit with a wish to end their pain/suffering from - terribly sad.

There are signs for the Samaritans at either end and a telephone too I think, I have climbed the steps up from the Food Hall before just to have a look from another angle.

Often wondered if it were possible (and permitted) to walk across the bridge. It scares me silly to drive across it (see also Humber and QE2) so I wanted to see if I could break my fear by taking a stroll across on foot. Am I able to?

The path over the bridge is a public footpath, so pedestrians are free to walk across the bridge if they so wish.

Me and my mates used to walk across there back in the day. Along the strand and up the hill. Windy and noisy up there. Recall also that Ipswich buses used to run an open top bus across there in the summer

As a young lad at Orwell Junior School, we regularly had visits from the construction bosses warning us to stay away from the site as we could easily find ourselves buried within the foundations and falling off things that would ultimately see our demise.

I'll level with you, these visits had the desired effect as they scared me sh*tless.

Anyhoo, 2x days before the official launch, myself and 4x fellow young bad-asses took our bikes* over the bridge and back. I may have even popped a wheelie.
