That MP isn't having a good time of it lately. Has had major depression issues and took a huge amount of courage to come out (does that phrase apply to trans, I'm not sure?). I think this event might have prompted his need to come out as well - I remember quite a bit of publicity a fair few months ago now.

One thing I find strange about the Conservative Party is its ability to attract and accept bigots whilst still attracting minorities.
For all its misogynism, racism, homophobia, etc even from the very top, they are the party that has brought us 2 female PMs and have had a number of ethnic minority members of cabinet. This MP is also not the only openly trans or gay member representing them either.

Bigotry, racism, etc., transcends all doesn't it. If you're an a-hole, you're an a-hole irrespective of what race, gender or sexuality you have.
But it does seem counterintuitive on the face of it. I can't understand why people who are refugees themselves or immigrants or offspring of immigrants would choose to pull up the drawbridge after them. And not only that, but to demonise people like themselves and their families. But again, just being utter a-holes probably explains it. | |
