FFS Starmer 07:45 - Jun 29 with 11668 views | GlasgowBlue | Not happy about this latest u turn tbh. Johnson dismantling DfID was a shameful, populist and very harmful move. Starmer gave a pledge to bring it back. Sorry for going all koonters but he’s u turning on just about everything. [Post edited 29 Jun 2023 8:07]

FFS Starmer on 08:38 - Jun 29 by Guthrum | That's what i meant. He's going beyond "competent centrism" into aping recent Conservatism. He's already talking about a need for lower taxes, it'll be "Stop the boats!" next. |
I get the ‘Ming Vase’ strategy of not scaring the centre right voters when he has such a commanding lead in the polls. So it’s understandable he distanced himself from the strikes and won’t commit to massive pay increases etc. but some of these u turns are beyond being careful. [Post edited 29 Jun 2023 9:56]

That is funny, but whatever the merits (or not) of what they are doing, it does seem to be a poor political strategy to have a reputation for flip-flopping in advance of an election.
FFS Starmer on 10:13 - Jun 29 with 1276 views | Swansea_Blue | It's another 'Starmer considers' piece, without anything actually having happened though. Are they just testing the water to see how things land? There's a very good case for not admitting to wanting to bring back something like DFID if your sole aim is to win over bigots. If that's his strategy though, it's bl00dy depressing. Agree with you all really - he must do better.

“Politics is the art of the possible, the attainable – the art of the next best” Wrote Otto von Bismarck, who knew a thing or two. https://www.reuters.com/article/germany-bismarck-idUKKBN0MS51U20150401 Some people on here need to grow up when discussing politics. Do you think shouting out to potential voters at this point "hey, we're going to raise your taxes to implement a policy most of you care a lot less about than the COLC" would be a vote winner for Labour? Seems to be open season almost daily on here for people to take pot shots at KS & Labour - I'm absolutely sick of it - keep talking them down, extrapolate to the wider population, & we could end up with another Tory govt. You really would have something to moan about then.

We’re going to end up with a Tory government whatever happens. This is who the Labour right are. I’m sick of the denialism.

far too much stock put on "considers" pieces. they can be:- put out by the person in question to test the water, put out by other people in the party to push a policy put out hoping to get a reaction which will sink a policy put out by political/press opponents to discredit a politician or a policy the manifesto is what counts, until then look at policy documents or conference speeches for your best interim guide https://labourlist.org/2023/05/labour-manifesto-2024-election-what-policies-npf-

from my years of reading bankster's teachings, here's his 4 point plan for revolution 1 go to voting booth 2 cross out candidate's name and replace it with "anna key" 3 giggle all the way home at his superior cunning sticking it to the man 4 sit back and await the inevitable overthrow of western democracy

It really isn't. Heat pumps work even in uninsulated properties. My Dad had one installed in his farmhouse a few years ago and it's been absolutely fine. The problem is more that there aren't enough good installers or people familiar with how they work.

Does he have underfloor heating in it? Because without that, or massively oversized radiators it just doesn't work well enough for what people need it to do - i.e. getting a house up to temperature quickly We've done a number of installations, the only ones where it works are so expensive it is just well off people spending money they'll never ever get back to do the 'right thing'

No underfloor heating, but larger radiators. However, they can run at high temperatures. A friend had a heat pump installed in an uninsulated solid wall end of terrace house and didn't change the radiators and it works fine too. If people are operating on the model like my Dad's (low temp/big radiators) it needs a change of mindset - heating is on for longer rather than short bursts.
