Life's a Pitch 08:54 - Nov 1 with 2086 viewsDyland

Apols if already posted...

Isn't it 2-3pm? In the report it talk about amalgamating counties from 12-2pm...?

Sure the Beeb's own report yesterday said sports programming would not be affected... guess they only meant commentary.

Shame to lose it. I'm not gonna listen to a combined show about Colch and Nodge and whoever ffs.

It's 12-2pm. I very much doubt the new show will be sport or football-based, the shows on those other stations - or at least some of them - aren't currently.

Given how many decisions that Ashton and Co have got right, surely Mark and Phil plus others will be asked to stay on by ITFC as part of the Town TV pre-match build up / show?

Would be nice but I'm sure they've got their own plans unfortunately.

Well beat me down with a feather duster... I only tune in around 2ish for whatever that show is called.

Aware this is me being a stupid old gommie rather than anything else :)

it does seem odd, given the sums that are involved, to be cutting programmes such as LaP.

Some of the regional stuff late evening onwards could use national based programming, as I suspect that much of its audience is probably asleep.

However, this is the way things are going. Stuff that was once free to access now gets charged.

How long before 999 calls are on a premium rate, as might be the Samaritans ?

I imagine if they produced something, it would be much more toadying, just as is the case with the in-house commentary compared to Brenner and co.

The irritating thing here (although a cynic might suggest that there's an element of intent...) is that the loss of LaP will only serve to hit listener numbers, and provide justification for the next round of cuts to local radio.

I wouldn't bet against, in the next 5-10 years, local BBC stations being amalgamated into more regionalised setups such as BBC East Anglia and the like.

You ain't a beauty but, hey, you're alright.

That's pretty much what's happening after 2pm with the changes that were announced yesterday and I'm sure you're right, that does seem the ultimate path, under this government at least.

Really gutted to see this go. Hopefully we see Terry Butcher and Mark Murphy on some sort of weekly / pre match for the Ipswich TV channel that Mark Ashton spoke about for next season onwards.

If MM's program is going, no more Brian from Melton.

They should get rid of the pointless 24 hour News channel, plus is there any point to BBC4 it's just jammed packed full of repeats.

Up and mainly down, following Town since 88

How many Gary Linekers or Graham Nortons would keeping the type of programming produced locally, such as LaP, that serves local communities actually cost?

By my reckoning, 17.77. From what I've read, the cuts are worth £80m, so even GL's wages a relative drop in the ocean.

Edited for wrong-placed point.

Is there any potential for you guys to find another platform ? Perhaps another station with ads or online or even approached the club? It is really popular with a lot of fans it is a huge shame and loss to peoples match days who listen before travelling or whilst traveling to games.

Maybe the deal-breaker would be the Captain Canary appearance fee.

I'd imagine that Mark Murphy's contract with the BBC limits his ability to work for other outlets.
I wouldn't be surprised if Mark Ashton is secretly quite pleased with this. If there's going to be pre-match coverage on a future Ipswich TV they'll probably want at least some of that to come from the fanzone or elsewhere in the ground and this development means that the local radio station is edged out of the way without the club copping any flak for it.

Good point probably works out nicely from the clubs point of view. If Mark Murphy is no longer doing life's a pitch, will that be him done with the BBC? I know he stopped his previous morning show.

If it was possible it would be a great idea for the club to get lifes a pitch going in some capacity. It certainly would boost listeners / watchers to any official ITFC media that comes out in the future
