200% piece on Macclesfield - worth a read on 09:02 - Sep 17 with 664 views | WeWereZombies | Interesting read but I think it is unfair to say that the EFL did not actually do anything - their recalculation of the points deduction kicked a badly run club out of their league. You could argue that Macclesfield are not the only badly run club and/or the EFL were motivated more by the prospect of alleviating this season's problems than intentions of good governance, but they did take action that, so far, had been to the betterment of the Fourth Division's status (if not to the hopes of the supporters of Macclesfield.)

The bottom line is that pretty much all of the FL clubs were losing money each year & have been for years. This is because they over-spend on wages in an attempt to keep or improve their league status. Every year, a few owners either can't or won't keep paying the bills so they try to find someone else to do so. Sometimes, they can't so a club goes into admin or dies. While there are certainly dubious owners, trying to regulate that isn't the answer as most will still over spend. The salary cap is a heavy handed but at least a realistic way of trying to deal with the problem.

Would be nice if the EFL was a bit more heavy-handed, I reckon. Who knows, maybe one day Ipswich would be competitive on their own revenues and we could manage without some rich guy giving us money.
