There's an entire generation, in fact more than one that doesn't understand them anyway.

Yes, but I still like stones, lbs and have to convert metric to real weights. I’d change the currency too. Pounds, shillings, pence, Guineas, half crowns, florins, ten bob notes. Aaaah the good old days. Furlongs, Chains, yards, inches. Lovely. If I had to learn imperial and metric at the same time, so should everyone else. The upside is that all the oldies (like me) can be ripped off again - just as they were in Feb 1971 and there’s all the excitement of the first day going to get some sweets to see what change you get. What’s not to like? Ok, yeah, stupid idea. I’ve had a beer or two this afternoon 🺠

It helps to understand the antique finances of the Witchfinder Army if you know the original British monetary system: Two farthings = One Ha'penny. Two ha'pennies = One Penny. Three pennies = A Thrupenny Bit. Two Thrupences = A Sixpence. Two Sixpences = One Shilling, or Bob. Two Bob = A Florin. One Florin and One Sixpence = Half a Crown. Four Half Crowns = Ten Bob Note. Two Ten Bob Notes = One Pound (or 240 pennies). Once Pound and One Shilling = One Guinea. The British resisted decimalized currency for a long time because they thought it was too complicated.” Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman

Yes, but tanners (sixpences) were perfect size and value for hiding in the Christmas pudding. Bring back the Gill! - a quarter of a pint. A cricket pitch is one chain in length - 22 yards.

Miles for long distances, still think primarily in ft/ins for human height and st/lb for human weight. Plus bar and psi for pressure (particularly tyres). Also ft for height of mountains. Not to forget pints for beer and milk! Interestingly, a lot of building materials are sold in metric measurements, but imperial sizes. For example, a 2.4 metre by 1.2 metre sheet of plasterboard is near enough 8 feet by 4, 18mm thick timber is about three-quarters of an inch, 38mm screws are approximately an inch and a half long, etc.
