Has there ever been a more embarrassing time to be a town fan? Largely considered irrelevant by national media, our reputation as a well-run and welcoming club with clear values and ethos are completely in tatters. Kills me to see us being pitied and ridiculed in the press.

That period of late autumn 93 to 95 in the Premier is up there. Easy to beat, boring to watch, derided in the press, 9 nil defeat. But we were at least in the top division and we thought we could bounce back.

This is quite something else

There was that one time some of the ‘fans’ sang songs against the manager when we were getting a result away at our biggest rivals.

No worse time than this. It’s worst team in its professional existence, a manager who is incompetent and some and just here to fill his financial boots as long as possible, an owner who is totally disinterested, largely poor players. In essence a bankrupt club in all aspects. It’s so sad.

They are an insult to the the clubs history, it’s supporters, former players, the town and area. I wish they’d change their name and the badge.

The way McCarthy’s relationship with the fans deteriorated was yet another example of the vacuum Evans leaves. For him to be captured telling our fans to f off and nothing to come from the club/owner was appalling.

Just for the record, he wasn’t telling me to F£&k off, because I wasn’t singing embarrassing songs about him away to our biggest rivals.

If I was him, I’d have done the same, because said fans were pathetic

I quite agree that the singing aimed at him was very poor.

That's right, Marcus Evans should have told those people to f off too.

McCarthy shouldn’t have done it. He should have been bigger than that and should have been fired on the spot.

Not many clubs where the manager wouldn't have been sacked for that.

How many other clubs would have accepted their manager abusing the supporters like that? It’s almost unheard of.

Also, it wasn’t mandatory to replace McCarthy, whose time was up, with a couple of chimps.

As it goes, while his win record was poor, the club was more happy and recognisable for the few months under Klug that it was in 2 years before or since.

18 years ago I moved across the pond to Florida. My last Town away game was the mid week Europa cup match in Milan Italy with close on 10,000 Town fans who had travelled to follow the mighty Blues. Even though Town were relegated my first year here I was proud as punch to mix in with the ex-pat British community and brag about past achievements with the Liverpool, Manchester, Newcastle and London supporting locals, and vacationers. I still drive around in my Chevy truck with a Town club badge/decal but certainly thought about removing it. No longer interested in joining in with the chat and to make things worse the best British fish and chip shop close by is owned by a family who support the bitter rivals and has football memorabilia draped around the bar ......
And to add.. I gave the fish & chip shop owner a Town wall plaque and next visit I see it's hung above the toilets ..... can it get any more depressing than that!!

Is he the only manager to take abuse of numbskulls in the history of the game? Of course not and I have not heard of any other manager doing what he did. He got an easier ride here than he’d have got at many other clubs.

He should have been bigger than that. He’d been making comments about the supporters not knowing what they were on about etc for months, even when we were playing one up front against dross with a non existent midfield of Douglas, Skuse and Hyam. Chipping away was MM not least because he thought he was bigger than the club. He did well for 3 seasons but time was up. He had no right to do what he did. He was well paid. The people he was abusing (and it wasn’t just the idiots) were doing the paying. Not acceptable.

If he was feeling so wounded why did he not walk away the following day? Because he wanted his money. As much as he could screw out of Evans. I don’t blame him for that at all. But I’ll shed no pity or tears over his departure. It was long overdue.

I’ll save the tears for the long suffering supporters and those that care about the club.

Credibility in the Championship, how I hated it. The football has been so much better since.

And to think, some people are clamouring for Cowley. The Style he’ll bring will have you drooling

It’s totally irrelevant what happened after and where we are now when it comes to saying goodbye to MM. Why do you buy into BCWYWF, unless you are a Chris Sutton clone?

If you believe it was as good as it could be under McCarthy scraping 0-0s at home with anti-football and being told you don’t know football if you didn’t think it was a great point, good for you. If you feel that 15th after a season of hoof ball in the championship with falling crowds was what this club should be aiming for again, great.

I don’t think it’s like that. I’m not expecting a return to the Robson years or Ramsey before him. All I want is a club that looks like a football club. Something that looks like a team. A club with an identity. A club that’s trying to achieve something. Trying to move forward and operating with standards. A team with people that feel some pride in playing for it. A club that tries to connect with its area, with its supporters.

Maybe that’s something you feel that the followers of Ipswich Town have no right to wish for. Fine. If you feel that we should be looking up to Wycombe, Peterborough and Lincoln as something we have no right to aspire to, again fine. I simply disagree.

As for the Cowley’s you won’t find a post with me mentioning them. While I’ve seen the Ipswich games against Lincoln I know nothing about them.
