They're welcome to him.

As I've said before, he doesn't seem to be the kind of player/personality that PC wants in the new setup.

How?

The club put their terms on the table and Gibbs didn't want what was on offer. The club shouldn't be bending over backwards to keep young talent on excessive terms, solely to prevent them going to Norwich.

Would love to know the details of it all. Last I heard he didn't want to go to them, so f.ck knows what happened. Maybe he was left no choice

... because if local press is to be believed, he wanted to stay, that was his first choice. He is one of the better academy lads coming through, who has had a taste of first team football and had a pathway be clear to the first team, he could/should well be part of it.

It could've been anyone he went too, it's p*ss poor letting one of our better talents to leave, when it's reported he wanted to stay.

The club should be doing everything it reasonably can do to keep its best young talent.

Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand.

Just because he wanted to stay doesn't mean we should have bent over backwards and acceded to whatever demands he had, whether they were monetary or had more to do with whether he was in the u23s or the first-team squad.

The club clearly attributed a certain value to him in terms of wage, and had a particular pathway in mind with regards to where he would train and play his football. No player is bigger than the club, and to allow players such as Gibbs to call the shots sends the wrong message to the rest of the club, and the wider footballing community.

We're the ones who should be welcome to him - and who should be welcoming him.

Saying Gibbs is the problem here or has some supposed personality disorder or character flaw is nonsense. Many professional footballers are not paragons of virtue or professionalism but that shouldn't mean they get the exit.

Even if their agents are problematic, deals can be done. You might recall there was some last minute scampering to try and keep him here and that the reports and posters close to the club were of the view he wanted to stay.

It's the manager's job to get the most out of his players, to motivate them, to be the best they can be, to get them to buy into him. Cook failed badly in that task when he took over and too many supporters have bought into the "it's all the players fault narrative" to the point where they can convince themselves that an exodus of talent like Gibbs, Dozzell is actually a good thing.

Cook has blamed the players for that, telling them they can leave. He's wrung the changes. No excuses for the coffeeslurperer now. At least for the time being.

If he couldn't force his way in to our team of utter dross in League one, surely he isn't all that people seem to believe he is..? Remember when everyone was moaning about that lad (name escapes me?) who joined Celtic and refused a new deal with us? What did he ever achieve?

This is the key point, losing your best prospects to Man City and Arsenal is one thing - letting them walk out the door and sign for Norwich is another

We offered him a contract, he turned it down. We as a club, following plenty of discussions between club staff decided what was our maximum offer, he declined it.

Except this guy is not "just another academy player". He is actually a huge loss, for our future i think, and it wouldn't have been expensive to keep him. It's not like he is walking out to a top 4 club.

I bracket him as an Academy player the management teams discussed, we offered what we felt was appropriate for his talents, he declined it.

He'll either go on and be successful, or he won't

just like we've just signed 3 more pro deals with a great crop of youngsters who may progress in the same manner.

Klug has described many players as one of the best he's worked with...... who have not yet progressed further as yet

I doubt that any of us really KNOW what prevented a deal being done - I also doubt it was just a few quid.
Someone on here said that he wanted to be in the first team squad and PC, rightly, said that would depend on performance. Who knows?
Whatever, I can generally support him leaving if he didn't get his needs/wants met, but to that lot is unforgivable.

That's the fella. Hand full of appearances and moved on. If Gibbs wasn't in first team plans this season and refused our offer what else could they do? I'd rather use the money on signing Crooks or someone who is going to get us out of this league

I highly doubt Gibbs leaving is going to be the financial catalyst that lands us Crooks.

Agreed. He wanted more than we were willing to pay. We can't start breaking boundaries just to spite Norwich. Might work out for him, might work out for Norwich, might work out for everyone.

It seems that members of this forum forget that there is literally a WORLD of football players OTHER than those we have inside the club, and there will inevitably be players better than Gibbs (who was nowhere near first team ready, as we saw). What do people want? Do they want us to be the Chelsea of L1 and just hoard talent? People have to play for other clubs or we wouldn't have a sport
